Exciting opportunity for artist at Howe Park Wood!

The Parks Trust are seeking an artist to create a brand-new outdoor art piece for the Education Centre at Howe Park Wood.

Artist submissions are to create a piece that raises awareness of the significance of pollination and/or pollinators which are under threat, as well as the relevant features found at Howe Park Wood. This ancient woodland located in the southwest of Milton Keynes is classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to it being home to over 200 plant species, some of which are extremely rare.

Public art celebrates the identity of a place – its heritage, biodiversity, cultures, and communities – to make spaces distinctive, memorable, and interesting. This newly designed artwork should be for the enjoyment and engagement of the public, who are mostly local residents, including dog walkers, families, and school groups.

Howe Park Wood attracts visitors from across Milton Keynes as it is well connected with public transport links. The building itself provides toilets, a café, and Education Centre that’s open during holidays and for special events in The Parks Trust community engagement calendar.

The Parks Trust, the charity caring for the city’s green spaces, has been awarded Section 106 funding from Milton Keynes City Council for this project. If you are an artist interested in working with The Parks Trust on this exciting activation, please review the design brief online.

Submissions are to be sent to [email protected] by Sunday 28th April 2024. The successful candidate will be informed in May.
