Public Transport

Our city couldn’t be easier to reach, just 50 miles from London, 60 miles from Birmingham, and equidistant from Oxford and Cambridge. The M1 is right on the doorstep, and we’re on the main train line from London to Birmingham, plus the international airports of London Heathrow and Birmingham are an hour away, with London Luton even closer. So however you reach us, your journey won’t be a taxing one.

But how about once you’re here? Our town was planned with easy transport in mind, and moving about our city couldn’t be easier. Whether you choose to hop on a bike, take the bus, walk, or drive, the layout and facilities will take the hassle out of getting around.

By Bus

Milton Keynes has a comprehensive bus service, and it makes for an easy and sustainable way to travel. Bus guides are available free from libraries, civic offices, town halls, parish council offices and at the information desks in centre;mk shopping centre.

By Train

The main London to Birmingham rail line runs right through Milton Keynes city centre. London Euston is only 35 minutes away by rail to the south, and Birmingham New Street is around 45 minutes to the north. The area is served by two other main stations: Bletchley and Wolverton.

By Car

Milton Keynes is built on a grid system – our major roads are numbered horizontally and vertically. Although the roads also have names, local people nearly always refer to them by letter and number. For example – H5, V8 etc. Wide roads and spacious carriageways mean that congestion is virtually unknown!

Milton Keynes is the best place to drive an electric vehicle with a range of programmes making it easier for drivers to go green. Milton Keynes has accelerated the number of charge points with over 400 in the town. The charging network is growing all the time and now includes two rapid filling stations at Coachway.

Parking

Park & Ride is available from the Coachway at Junction 14 of the M1. You can catch the 3, C1, C11 and X5 bus services from Milton Keynes Coachway to the city centre. with services every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday.

Arriva offer special Park & Ride fares for travel between MK Coachway and the City Centre.

Valid for one round trip for up to five people (Adults or Children) between Coachway Park & Ride and Central Railway Station Arriva Buses only.

You can park your car for FREE at the Coachway.

Parking is rarely an issue in Milton Keynes, even at peak times. There is a charge for parking in the city centre from 7am to 6pm everyday except Christmas Day and Easter Sunday.

  • Standard tariff (purple bays) £1 per hour for the first two hours, then 50p per hour (minimum stay two hours).
  • Premium tariff (red bays) £2.50 for the first hour, then £2 per hour

By Foot, Bike or Electric Scooter

Milton Keynes has a purpose-built network of cycle and pedestrian pathways called Redways. They’re a great way to quickly make your way around the city under your own power, and you’ll never find yourself crossing major roads or dangerous junctions.

With over 200 miles of safe cycle paths stretching right across Milton Keynes, strapping on your helmet and pedalling away couldn’t be easier. If you don’t want to bring your own bike, then there are hire schemes available for visitors and locals alike. Electrically-assisted bikes are available from Santander and Lime and electric scooters from Lime and Dott…both are all great options for getting around the city quickly.
