Milton Keynes Theatre invites you to tuck in to the feast of shows that are on offer in their 20th anniversary autumn season.
Say ‘Hello Dolly’ to the Queen of Country’s rip-roaring, feel-good, smash hit musical, 9 to 5; hop on the bus to the Outback with the glamorous ‘girls’ in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and throw some shapes at Saturday Night Fever. And that’s not all. This season, Musicals ‘R’ Us!
Puppets they may be but this show is definitely not for children! Avenue Q, the naughtiest, laugh-out-loud musical is back full of mischief, bad behaviour and political incorrectness. There were mixed fortunes for the six wives of Henry VIII but, on stage at MKT this autumn, girl power rules as those Tudor queens strut their stuff in Six the musical.
Kinky Boots will take you from the factory floor to the chic catwalks of Milan. Make sure you take yourselves to the best entertainment venue in the region when the winner of every musical award going comes to MKT.
Drama isn’t overlooked this autumn either. Shane Richie is a Milton Keynes favourite. Shane is returning to MKT in one of the most challenging roles of his career, Archie Rice, in John Osborne’s play The Entertainer, which has been hailed as one of the greatest plays of the 20th century. The Mousetrap is more than a thriller; it’s the daddy of all murder mysteries and Agatha Christie’s masterful whodunit is kicking off the autumn season. And finally, prepare to have your spine-tingled when the Classic Screen to Stage Theatre Company brings The Exorcist to terrifying life!
Theatre at its best comes in many forms and dance productions have an appeal that crosses every conceivable boundary. This autumn we are proud to present the work of three amazing companies. English National Ballet swash-buckles their way into MKT with Le Corsaire, a ‘rollicking romcom’ of a ballet, South Africa’s award-winning choreographer, Dada Masilo, brings her fearless re-imagining of the iconic classic, Giselle and BALLETBOYZ present a brand new double bill of exciting and original work.
Milton Keynes Theatre is one of only six venues in the UK lucky enough to host Glyndebourne Tour 2019. This year, the company is proud to present the next generation of opera stars in three diverse and magical works by Donizetti, Verdi and Handel. If you’ve never tried it, make 2019 the year that you discover the power of opera.
You’re never too young to enjoy live theatre if the show is right and when it’s Zog, the dragon, who’s bumped, burned and roared his way into town, you can rest assured that even the littlest of people will love the whole experience.
With an amazing line-up of one night shows including comedy from Russell Kane and Frank Skinner, tribute acts that pay homage to the likes of Bowie, The Beatles, Abba and Elvis, an evening with BAFTA award-winning Jane McDonald and hot stuff from The Dreamboys, this anniversary autumn season at Milton Keynes Theatre is certainly enough to keep the dark nights of winter away.
Christmas may be the last thing on your mind at the moment but we are so looking forward to our spectacular seasonal family entertainment Aladdin, we just had to share our excitement with you! Starring Joe Pasquale as Wishee Washee and Lee Mead as Aladdin, it’s going to be everything you could wish for in a panto. But tickets are selling fast so hop aboard the magic carpet and book yours now!
A little bit further ahead, you can look forward to spring 2020 and a sparkling, packed season of shows that includes the heart-warming stage adaptation of The Snowman, the National Theatre’s, An Inspector Calls and Matthew Bourne’s triumphant adaptation of the legendary film, The Red Shoes.
Mischief Theatre returns with another catastrophic disaster, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, and then there are four more fantastic musicals to brighten up the dark days of winter: On Your Feet, Once, The King and I and We Will Rock You.
Finally, we are proud to present the world stage premiere of Kay Mellor’s murderous thriller, Band of Gold, and enormously pleased to welcome back Welsh National Opera with a trio of operas that are steeped in revenge, temptation and suspense.
