Things are getting ever more chillsome at Milton Keynes Museum with the history hub preparing to celebrate half term with a full week of Halloween spooks – Monday, 27 October – Friday, 31 October.

For the first time, the Museum will be delivering a Victorian themed event too, adding to the creepability!

Popular local performance troupe, The Black Sheep Collective will be occupying the Street of Shops with perfectly eerie interactive performances.

There have been some spooky goings on, reports of shadows, strange noises and people going missing in the street of shops.

Meet George the paperboy, Betty the Butcher and Victor the V… who disappears into the shadows. All have their own story to tell, if you are brave enough to listen!

In the farmhouse, the Parlour will be dressed with all kinds of authentic decoration from the time when Queen Victoria occupied the throne.

Elsewhere, Halloween activities are running – including cookie decorating, and the chance to make your own witch’s hat. Museum volunteers will be dressing to scare, too.

And there’s much more, including a Spooky Singalong with Lingotot (Oct 29), Victorian-inspired henna design candle painting (Oct 30) and – coinciding with Black History Month – Cultural storyteller Chinwe will explain the meaning behind Adinkra Symbols from Ghanaian Culture, cross referencing them with objects from the servant’s room (Oct 31).

“It’s frightening how quickly Halloween is upon us, but we are ready for it and can promise everyone who visits the Museum this half term a thoroughly creepy time!” promised deputy director Surbhi Bhambri, “We’ve got a full week of freaky and fabulous events and activities planned, which will be spine-chillingly great, and perfect for all ages!”

There is ample free parking for broomsticks – and cars – at the Museum.

Pay once at the Museum and you can visit for free for a whole year.

For more information visit www.miltonkeynesmuseum.org.uk

* Black Sheep Collective performances are 12-2pm daily, October 27-October 31.

Landsec, owner of Xscape Milton Keynes, has announced a new partnership with leading mental health charity, Mind, to champion mental health awareness and support. The initiative launches today to coincide with World Mental Health Day (10 October).

Mind is a national charity dedicated to supporting those experiencing mental health challenges by tackling stigma, improving access to services, and campaigning for positive change. With one in five people in the UK living with a mental health problem – and many struggling to access timely support – Mind works to ensure that no one faces these challenges alone. Across the UK, 107 Local Minds operate as independent charities, collectively supporting more than 500,000 people each year through community-based mental health services, a national helpline, and accessible online resources.

Together, Xscape Milton Keynes and Mind are encouraging guests to take moments to pause, reflect, and reset as part of a new mental health awareness campaign in the centre.

Throughout Xscape, visitors will find thoughtfully placed artwork, including mirror stickers and selfie stands, featuring uplifting prompts that inspire positivity and mindfulness. The installations also direct guests to practical resources and information, both on and offline, about where to access further mental health support locally.

Andrew Berrie, Head of Corporate Partnerships for Mind, said, “Right now, the nation’s mental health is in crisis. One in five people are living with a mental health problem, and far too many are not getting the help they need.

“Our partnership with Xscape Milton Keynes allows us to reach people in an everyday setting — reminding them that mental health affects us all, and that support is always available. The installations will help us potentially connect with millions of guests over the next year encouraging small moments of reflection and letting people know that Mind is here whenever they need us.”

Dan Murphy, Centre Director at Xscape Milton Keynes, said, “We’re proud to partner with Mind to help promote positive mental health among our guests. Places like Xscape can often be busy, fast-paced environments, so we wanted to create moments within the mall that encourage people to pause and take a breath.

“This initiative is about reminding our visitors that taking time for themselves, even in small ways, can make a big difference — and that help and support is always available if they need it.”

The Original Muck Boot Company, the iconic footwear brand built for life in the outdoors, has joined forces with Forestry England to become its first-ever National Wellbeing Partner.

This pioneering partnership is designed to help more people experience the healing power of forests, by supporting initiatives that connect communities with nature and promote mental and physical wellbeing.

Launching on World Mental Health Day (10th October), the collaboration is designed to create lasting impact by embedding shared values of outdoor adventure, community connection and wellbeing.

As part of the programme, Muck Boot will support wellbeing initiatives across five Forestry England sites including at Salcey Forest, just outside Milton Keynes.

These include:

  • Tailored activity sessions for community groups and individuals with mild-to-moderate health conditions.
  • Projects and infrastructure improvements that reduce barriers to nature and create more inclusive, welcoming forest experiences for local communities.
  • Jointly branded materials at key Forestry England sites will also encourage visitors to engage with nature. A year-round competition will invite people to share: “What are you thankful to the forest for?” Submissions via QR code will give participants the chance to win a pair of Muck Boots and a Forestry England membership.
  • Throughout the year, Muck Boot will create moments that celebrate the joy and wellbeing benefits of spending time outdoors, whether that’s walking in nature, enjoying the outdoors throughout the seasons, or exploring with family and pets. These activations will highlight the durability and versatility of Muck Boots in all conditions, while also reinforcing themes of gratitude for nature, wellbeing and the positive impact of the partnership and the projects it has helped bring to life.

Muck Boot will also be donating boots to Forestry England’s Shadow Ranger Volunteers, who will wear them on muddy trails while promoting the wellbeing benefits of spending time outdoors.

Both Muck Boot and Forestry England share a mission to protect and celebrate the outdoors. Forestry England cares for over 1,500 forests across the country, providing safe, welcoming and accessible green spaces so that everyone, regardless of background or ability, can experience the restorative benefits of nature, Muck Boot compliments this by providing durable, weatherproof footwear designed for working, walking and exploring in nature. Together, this partnership reflects a deep commitment to making forests more accessible, inclusive and inspiring – ensuring future generations can continue to experience the restorative and wellbeing benefits of nature.

Milly Pestell, International Marketing Manager, The Original Muck Boot Company, says of the partnership:

“Muck Boot is honoured to partner with Forestry England as their first National Wellbeing Partner. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to strengthening communities’ connection with nature and championing the benefits of spending time outdoors. With a proud heritage of delivering performance, comfort, and reliability in all conditions, Muck Boot is dedicated to supporting those who embrace life in the elements. Together, we aim to inspire more people to get outdoors and explore England’s forests, whatever the weather!”

Sophie Loveday, Forestry England Wellbeing Partnership Manager says:

“We’re delighted to welcome The Original Muck Boot Company as our first National Wellbeing Partner. This partnership is rooted in a shared belief that forests are vital spaces for improving mental and physical health. With Muck Boot’s support, we’re able to expand our wellbeing initiatives and make our forests more inclusive and accessible for everyone. Together, we’re helping more people discover the restorative power of nature.”
