Enjoy a Gruffalo hunt this Easter holiday at Salcey Forest

Is the story of the Gruffalo a firm favourite in your family?

If the answer is yes, then head to Salcey Forest for a spot of Gruffalo hunting in the deep, dark wood! With Gruffalo Orienteering, a beautiful hand-carved sculpture of the Gruffalo himself, and a brand-new children’s Gruffalo Party Trail that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the book. There is something for all fans, whatever the age!

It’s the Gruffalo’s birthday…

And everyone’s invited to this party. From the Visitor Welcome, head out onto the forest trail to find the missing party items, pick a present for Gruffalo and enjoy woodland adventures. Pick up a trail party pack for £4 – it accompanies the trail and includes a decorative headband to get you in the party mood, as well as a fun activity leaflet, stickers and a keep-sake celebratory patch. It’s packed with fun things to help you and your preschoolers on your way!

Gruffalo Orienteering…

Suitable for children up to 8 years of age, this navigational, map reading challenge is a great way to discover the deep dark beauty of Salcey Forest as you hunt for the markers in the forest. Accessible for all and with a map that can be purchased for just £1.50 (you’re guaranteed to not get lost!) it’s a fun-for-all family activity! And if you’re a competitive bunch, why not challenge yourselves against the clock?

Gruffalo Sculpture….

Head to the Glade area to spot (and take a photo with) the beautiful hand-crafted carving of the Gruffalo. This easily accessible short walk is perfect for those with littler legs, or anyone looking for something a bit more laid back that takes in the beautiful surroundings.

Something for all….

Salcey Forest is the perfect location for Gruffalo hunters and lovers alike – but what makes this local outdoor haven the perfect day out, is there’s something for every age. Traffic-free cycling routes for the teenagers of the house, and the waymarked walking trails offer a variety of shorter or longer routes for all abilities. Swing through the trees and see the forest from a whole new level on one of the many activities at the new Go Ape. And if you are a nature lover, discover the whole host of wildlife that make the quieter parts of the forest their home. Transport those little ones on a journey from bedtime story to fresh air in the forest with their favourite character. Tick the boxes for those harder-to-please teens, inclusive days out for the older family members and whether you’re travelling from near or far, Salcey Forest is the perfect day out for all the family, including the dog!
