Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP) has selected ATG Entertainment (ATG) as its preferred partner to operate a brand-new, multi-purpose events venue in the heart of Milton Keynes.

ATG, the global leader in live entertainment with over 30 years of experience, will bring its national and international expertise to the 4,000-capacity venue at the Old Bus Station, Elder Gate. The venue is expected to attract more than 300,000 visitors annually, hosting a diverse range of performers and acts. It will complement ATG’s highly successful operation of Milton Keynes Theatre since it opened in 1999 by enabling larger-scale music performances and live experiences that the existing theatre cannot accommodate.

This landmark project represents a £76 million investment from MKDP and is forecast to deliver £158 million in economic and community benefits, alongside creating approximately 70 new jobs. The development forms part of MKDP’s updated Business Plan for 2024–2027, which focuses on transformative placemaking projects to enhance the city centre and provide facilities befitting a growing city. The venue will be located adjacent to the recently revitalised Station Square and close to Unity Place, Santander UK’s new £150 million headquarters and community hub.

ATG has a proven track record of attracting major acts and strengthening cultural offerings. This new venue will expand Milton Keynes’ entertainment landscape, giving residents and visitors access to blockbuster concerts and large-scale live experiences, with over 100 headline events planned annually.

Later this year, MKDP will begin the planning process, including a public consultation to ensure local voices help shape the development. Construction is expected to start soon after, with the venue scheduled to open in 2029.

MKDP is an independent organisation owned by Milton Keynes City Council. Through strategic land development, MKDP generates funding to support placemaking projects across the city. By 2027, MKDP will have provided £7.8 million to the city council for placemaking projects, rising to £23 million by 2035/36.

The Milton Keynes branch of John Lewis, in partnership with the UK and Ireland tour of TINA – THE TINA TURNER MUSICAL, is showcasing costumes from the production ahead of its arrival at Milton Keynes Theatre, where it will play from Tuesday 27 January – Saturday 7 February. The costumes are on display now until 9 February.

Designed by set and costume designer Mark Thompson, costumes on display at the store include replicas of the iconic gold fringe dress worn by Tina Turner for her landmark performance of Proud Mary on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1970, and the unforgettable red leather outfit from Tina’s 1988 Rio de Janeiro concert. It’s time to change the game. The country that gave the world football has since delivered a painful pattern of loss. The England men’s team has the worst track record for penalties in the world, and manager Gareth Southgate knows he needs to open his mind and face up to the years of hurt to take team and country back to the promised land.

The National Theatre will run a year-long schools engagement programme inspired by Gareth Southgate’s ‘Dear England’ open letter that he wrote to England fans in 2021.  This programme, which will prompt young people across the UK to reflect on their own place in history, just as the footballers in Southgate’s squad were encouraged to do, is in response to this year being the 80^th anniversary of the Second World War.  It will be delivered in schools across England with assemblies and workshops using spoken word and sound design to support students to share the hopes and aspirations they have for themselves and other young people, 80 years from now.  The resulting sound archive will form a unique 2025–2026 time capsule.  Students will also be invited to see performances of Dear England during the tour.  This year-long schools engagement programme is expected to reach over 10,000 young people.

Dear England was originally commissioned by the National Theatre and developed with the theatre’s New Work department.  Its world premiere was on 20 June 2023 in the Olivier theatre.  Following a sold-out run, Dear England transferred to the Prince Edward Theatre, in London’s West End, from 9 October 2023 to 13 January 2024, where it broke box office records.  Dear England was subsequently released to cinemas through National Theatre Live on 24 January 2024 and has been screened almost 2,500 times across the UK.  In February 2024, the BBC announced it had commissioned a four-part drama of Dear England based on the stage production for BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and it won ‘Best New Play’ at the 2024 Olivier Awards later that year.  Dear England returned to the National Theatre in spring 2025, updated to reflect the 2024 UEFA EURO tournament and Gareth Southgate’s final chapter as England manager.  The play had its regional premiere at the Lowry in Salford on 29 May, followed by a 4-week run.

Milton Keynes shoppers are invited to kick off 2026 with a burst of colour, fun and feel-good vibes as Midsummer Place launches its Balloon Bingo – turning January Blues into Woohoos!

Taking place every Saturday throughout January, starting 10 January at 12pm, the centre will host Balloon Bingo at the Bandstand in the Boulevard, an exciting giveaway event with £1,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.

Each Saturday, 100 balloons – each with a unique number – will be handed out from 12pm and until they have gone – on a first come first served basis. Then at 1pm, one of MKFM’s illustrious presenters will start the Balloon Bingo! When your number is called — it’s time to celebrate.

If you’ve not visited the Land of Lights spectacular at Gulliver’s Resort this winter, there is still time to be dazzled!

The festival, located at Gulliver’s Resort in Milton Keynes, is now open each Saturday throughout January and February.

Visitors set out on a mile-long visual voyage exploring multiple vivid dreamworlds of imagination and illumination – including a host of fantastic dinosaurs – and there is music and street food to enjoy.

Stony Stratford is set for a huge night of laughter as The Comedy Cow brings a special Comedy Night to The Cock Hotel on Thursday 15th January, featuring an outstanding lineup from the UK comedy circuit.

The Parks Trust’s first Night Hike offers a chance to safely stay active after dark, and the annual Corporate Pancake Race returns for another year of flipping-good-fun at Milton Keynes Rose. It’s a pan-tastic team building activity for local organisations wanting to get involved with their community – team registrations are now open!

Let’s face it…you can’t go wrong with Julia Donaldson. Her books are found in pretty much every household where young children reside. Tales like The Gruffalo, The Highway Rat, Zog, Tabby McTat and The Scarecrow’s Wedding have been delighting young people and adults for over 25 years.

One of the most beloved of her books is Stick Man and now this wonderful story of an anthropomorphic wooden stick who becomes separated from his family home has been turned into an award-winning stage show by Freckle Productions.

This production is beautifully done, it stays very true to the book, keeping the misadventures of our hero very simple yet wonderfully creative. Just three actors take to the stage in a fully immersive adaptation but using minimal props and some very catchy songs.

They take you on Stick Man’s journey from getting lost in the park, chewed on by a dog, taken to a nest by a swan, being swept out to sea and being used as a bat on a beach and onto to his final adventure when he meets the big man in a red suit, who helps Stick Man get home to the family tree.

We went along with a four-year-old and an eight-year-old, both big fans of the book and both clutching their own Stick Man toys. They loved every second, taking part in the audience participation sections – the naughty dog chases Stick Man through the audience and catching the beach ball. They got swept along in the magic of the story, even reciting some of the most memorable lines word for word.

For young children, where this might be their very first time going to a theatre, it’s a brilliant introduction – nothing is too loud or too in your face. It runs for around 55-60 minutes, with no interval and you can take your own snacks in as well, it’s all very relaxed. Bringing a mix of puppetry, live music, dance and fun – it’s a lovely, gentle story that plays wonderfully to the audience of all ages.

Even as adults, who have read the story countless number of times – we found ourselves rooting for Stick Man to get back to the “…family tree and his Stick Lady Love and their stick children three.”

With the Christmas-themed ending, it’s a perfect alternative to some of the bolder, brighter, louder pantomimes, and it plays at The Stables in Milton Keynes until 4 January, with various performance times to suit younger audiences. Don’t miss out, this really is a delightful, heart-warming production that will fill you with joy.

Reggae Land is by far the biggest reggae festival in the UK and one of the largest in Europe, and 2026 will mark its most ambitious year yet. The full artist line-up will be announced in January and promises to be the largest yet, expanding from 90 artists in 2025 to 120+ artists in 2026, all spread across seven stages with increased production, sound, facilities and immersive decor.
