Woburn Safari Park is celebrating the birth of its first Rothschild giraffe to be born in 2009. This birth signals another major success for the park’s breeding programme of the most endangered of the nine subspecies of giraffe. Born during on Friday 24 July, the new male giraffe has been named ‘Jambo’ which means ‘hello’ in Swahili. You can see Jambo now at the Safari Park!

The award-winning Go Ape High Wire Forest Adventure, is set to open a new Go Ape course in Woburn Safari Park on 21 March 2009. Based on a similar design to the already established seventeen UK-wide courses, Go Ape at Woburn, the first ever franchise course, will offer visitors the opportunity to live life adventurously. Bletchley Park launches exciting new initiative to produce its own food. Most people will be familiar with the World War Two expression, ‘Digging for victory’, which encouraged people to grow their own food, rather than rely on food imported by ships across the Atlantic that were vulnerable to attack by German U-boats. Here at Bletchley Park, workers also dug for victory to support the war effort but today we are digging to reduce our carbon footprint.

SpongeBob SquarePants, international star of the screen, is taking to the UK stage for the first time ever! The squishy sea sponge, his best starfish buddy and all their fun friends from Bikini Bottom are coming to Milton Keynes in a live action show, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Sponge Who Could Fly! Catch him at Milton Keynes Theatre from 18 to 21 February 2009.
From 14 to 22 February, between 12 – 6pm each day, there will be free live entertainment at Xscape in a 1940s style theatre! You can enjoy live swing music on Valentine’s Day, musical theatre on Sunday 15 and 22, and on 18 February a very special ‘spongey’ guest will make an appearance live on stage to get the children all excited.
Milton Keynes Gallery is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Director, Anthony Spira. He will join Milton Keynes Gallery in early May 2009, from his current post as Curator
at the Whitechapel Gallery, London. He succeeds Michael Stanley, who left Milton Keynes Gallery in December 2008 to take up his appointment as Director of Modern Art Oxford.

The 2009 season at Milton Keynes Theatre spirals onto stage with an exotic feast of acts from undisputed masters of martial arts, The Chinese State Circus. The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) visits Milton Keynes Theatre from 4 - 8 November with their new production of William Shakespeare’s epic tale of thwarted love, Romeo and Juliet. Featuring a company of 23 actors and a seven-piece live band on stage, this is a boldly theatrical new staging of Shakespeare’s fast-moving story of two teenagers torn apart by their families’ vendetta.

Milton Keynes Gallery is once again in the art world limelight as former exhibiting artist Cathy Wilkes goes on show in an installation at the Tate Britain in London as part of the prestigious annual Turner Prize Award. Cathy was nominated for the Prize on the strength of her exhibition at Milton Keynes Gallery from 16 April – 8 June this year.

To kick start the gardening season, from the 28 March to 30 March the Milton Keynes Gardening Show will be back in Middleton Hall at thecentre:mk. The show will have over 50 exhibitors covering all aspects of gardening from sheds to shredders through plants and patios.

SK8MK have been asked by EWx 2007 show organiser Brintex Ltd to design a skate sculpture called the Bus Station 2 which will be skated by Milton Keynes skaters on the three days of the exhibition.
