Diaspora Calling! will make its UK debut on Friday 7th August 2026 with a major open-air event at Milton Keynes National Bowl. The inaugural edition will be headlined by the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill in what is currently her only confirmed UK performance for 2026. She will be joined by Wyclef Jean, YG Marley and Zion Marley, with further artists across the two stages to be announced in the coming months.

Originally launched in 2016, Diaspora Calling! was conceived by Ms. Lauryn Hill as a music and art initiative celebrating the culture, creativity and shared histories of the African diaspora. The project began with a curated art exhibition and live performance at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, where Ms. Hill presented a gallery focused heavily on Haitian art alongside a programme of live music. The concept later expanded into a tour that featured artists including Nas, Kehlani, Noname and Little Simz. Across its various iterations, the platform has centred on themes of unity, resilience and cultural exchange among African descendant communities worldwide.

Ms. Lauryn Hill is a Grammy-winning singer, rapper and songwriter whose vast influence spans hip-hop, soul and R&B. She first rose to prominence as part of the game-changing Fugees before releasing her landmark solo album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’, which earned five Grammy Awards. Hill is celebrated for her lyrical depth and genre-blending sound and is a culturally significant artist whose work continues to centre identity, spirituality and social consciousness.

Supporting her is Wyclef Jean, a fellow Grammy-winning artist, producer and founding member of the Fugees whose sound blends hip-hop with Caribbean, soul and global influences. Representing a new generation is YG Marley who brings conscious lyricism and reggae-rooted sounds that reflect the legacy of his family while carving out his own contemporary voice. Zion Marley continues the Marley lineage with his own modern fusion of reggae, soul and hip-hop to the diaspora-inspired lineup.

The 2026 UK edition brings this vision to one of the country’s largest outdoor venues with a full food village offering a range of different tastes and treats from several traders. Milton Keynes National Bowl is a haven for large-scale concerts and festivals with high-spec lights and sound with easy access that makes it a perfect setting for a show of this importance.

The paw-some Big Doggie Do returns on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May, packed with pooch-themed shows, displays, activities, talks, stalls, food and more!

Grab the lead for walkies to Willen Lake and play fetch at flyball, make a splash at the pup-ular dock diving, or enjoy some tasty treats on the lawn. MK’s furry four-legged friends are invited (with their humans) to enter the spectacular dog show sponsored by MK Vet Group – register on the day, just £1 per entry.

Visitors can pick up tips from expert-led talks in the Club Tent, explore stalls with dog-related services and products, as well as chances to meet with local charities. It’s guaranteed fun for all the family too, as children can enjoy colouring activities, an art and craft session, and a dog trivia quiz with a chance to win a prize!

The Parks Trust has announced the line-up for Milton Keynes’ annual Walking Festival returning to the city’s parks in May!

Organised by the charity caring for MK’s green spaces, this year’s MK Walking Festival provides lots of different outdoor activities. Whether you’re a casual stroller, a seasoned hiker, or looking for new experiences, there’ll be something for everyone of all ages. Highlights include:

Moo-ch by both sets of the city’s iconic concrete cows on a 2-3-mile walk to discover the public art in the north of the city – setting off from MK Museum, a new walking festival partner.

Fri 8 May 6pm, Tree Cathedral
Make a mini pilgrimage around the Tree Cathedral, stopping around the site to hear stories of debauchery by a set of fictious characters on their pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral.

Enjoy a short scenic walk guided by local photographer Nicky Kenny, to capture some amazing photos. Whether you’re using your phone or a camera you’ll capture something special.

Artwork created by learners from Milton Keynes charity MK Snap is now on display at Unity Place, following a special launch event that celebrated creativity, community and inclusion.

Seven artworks created by MK Snap learners were selected for the exhibition, each sharing a powerful message about community, individuality and inclusion.

The exhibition is now officially open to visitors to Unity Place.

MK Snap provides a leading programme of learning, life skills, work preparation and employment opportunities for adults aged 18 and over with learning disabilities. Its programmes help learners develop the skills, confidence and support needed to realise their potential while fostering independence, personal growth and community inclusion.

The artwork, selected by MK Snap tutors and learners from the charity’s canvas art sessions, were chosen for the meaningful messages they convey about the MK SNAP community while also connecting with the wider Milton Keynes community.

Several designs reference well-known local landmarks, including the iconic Concrete Cows and the Whispering Statue outside Milton Keynes Central Library. In some pieces, the letter “U” has also been incorporated into the design, celebrating the collaboration between MK Snap and Unity Place and highlighting the creativity and talents of the learners involved.

One of the featured artworks, Holding Hope, by learner Emma, depicts a penguin holding a heart-shaped balloon against a vibrant yellow background – a symbol of resilience and the strength found in community support.

Another standout piece, Labels Are for Jars, painted with remarkable attention to detail by learner Jerry, features a ketchup-style bottle carrying the bold message: “Labels are for jars, not for people.” The colourful artwork challenges stereotypes and celebrates individuality.

Speaking at the launch event, MK Snap Centre Director Steven Carruthers said the exhibition was an opportunity to recognise the achievements of the charity’s learners.

“Tonight is really about celebrating our learners, their creativity and everything they achieve every day,” he said.

“Art has always been something I believe in deeply, not just for the joy of creating it, but for the stories it tells. For our learners, art can be a powerful way to express themselves, build confidence and challenge misconceptions about people with learning disabilities.”

He added that the quality of the artwork often surprises visitors: “People sometimes ask if our learners really painted these pieces – and the answer is yes, they absolutely did. With the right support, encouragement and opportunity, people can achieve incredible things, and the work displayed here proves that.”

Learner Jerry, whose piece Labels Are for Jars is part of the exhibition, described the challenge of perfecting his artwork.

“I really focused on getting the colours right and paying attention to the details. It was challenging, but I’m proud of how it turned out.”

In a video shown during the launch event, Jerry also spoke about the impact MK Snap has had on his life, explaining that the charity has given him a sense of purpose and the opportunity to develop his creativity.

Claire O’Neill, Head of Enterprise at MK Snap, said opportunities to exhibit work in public spaces through partnerships like Unity Place play a vital role in building confidence and strengthening community connections for learners.

“Partnerships with organisations like Unity Place are incredibly important to MK Snap. They allow our learners to share their creativity in public spaces and connect with the wider Milton Keynes community.

“Projects like this help learners build confidence, social skills and a real sense of belonging.”

Speaking at the launch, Adam Holbrook, Head of Placemaking for Unity Place, said the exhibition highlights the importance of community collaboration:

“Unity Place was created as a space where people, creativity and community come together, so we’re delighted to showcase the incredible work of MK Snap’s learners.

The artwork is vibrant, thoughtful and inspiring, and we’re proud to provide a platform for these talented artists to share their stories with the wider Milton Keynes community.”

Willen Hospice’s independent music shop, Off the Record, is proud to be part of Record Store Day 2026 this Saturday (18 April), with more than 800 limited-edition albums on offer.

Record Store Day is a global, annual event celebrating the culture, community and creativity that independent record shops bring to towns and cities. It features exclusive releases, live performances and special promotions that bring music fans together.

Based in Midsummer Place, Off the Record will once again be opening early at 8am on Record Store Day to offer music fans exclusive, limited-edition vinyl releases on a first-come, first-served basis. This year’s list includes special titles from Elton John, Madonna, Blur, Charli XCX, Primal Scream, Olivia Dean, Wolf Alice, CMAT and many more. With releases spanning rock, pop, soul, jazz, hip-hop, classical and beyond, there’s something waiting for every collector and music lover.

Sandy Bell-Ashe, one of the team leaders at Off the Record, explains how it works. “It is a real buzz on the day,” said Sandy. “Last year we had queues from six in the morning! So I’d advise people to get here as early as they can. It’s a very, very busy day for the shop team but very enjoyable and worthwhile, because it helps us raise much-needed funds for the Hospice’s care.

“We’ve got more stock this year than last year – more than 800 albums in total. We have to order the stock in and a lot of it is very limited. So we might order 10 copies of something, but only get two, or none at all. So far, we’re very happy with what we have got. We didn’t get any Taylor Swift records last year, but there’s lots this year and I’m very happy about that. I know I’m an old goat, but I’m a big fan!

“There will also be plenty of used and new records on the shelves that aren’t exclusives but are just brilliant. We’re excited to welcome everyone through the doors and enjoy the great atmosphere we always get on Record Store Day.”
