Open University Choir summer concert: Time and Seasons
The Open University Choir’s summer concert is a free lunchtime event on 25 June, 1pm–2pm on the OU’s Walton Hall campus. Conducted by Dennis Pim, the programme is based around the theme of time and seasons. The OU Choir welcomes soprano soloist Eleanor Stevens and pianist Ros Whatmore for this performance.
The main work, ‘A Time for all Seasons’ by Cecilia McDowall, sets text from Ecclesiastes, reworked by award-winning poet Kevin Crossley Holland, in her distinctive yet accessible style.
Bob Chilcott’s ‘Dances of Time’ sets texts from a variety of sources: Ecclesiastes, King Henry VIII, poems by Thomas Carlyle, Robert Herrick, and American poet Sara Teasdale.
Dennis Pim, Associate Conductor of the choir, has set four Rupert Brooke’s poems for his work ‘Time and Seasons’ .
The concert also includes three seasonal madrigals by 16th century composer Thomas Morley.
