Midsummer Place is proud to announce that its 25th Anniversary Celebration will take place on Saturday 27 September from 10am – 4pm. Shoppers, families, and the local community are invited to join in a fun-filled day of entertainment, marking a quarter of a century at the heart of Milton Keynes.

Visitors can expect a packed line-up of FREE activities throughout the mall, including:

  • Face painting with colourful designs for children
  • Stilt walkers delivering high-energy fun and spectacle
  • Live music to set the perfect celebratory soundtrack
  • Plus, plenty more surprises throughout the day

As part of the celebrations, a special ceremony will also take place for everyone who shared their story with the Umbrella Project, where they will be presented with their very own umbrella from the art display as a thank you.

Since opening its doors in 1999, Midsummer Place has grown to become a vibrant shopping and lifestyle destination, home to leading fashion brands, unique independents, and a thriving food scene. The 25th anniversary is not just a celebration of the centre itself, but of the community that has supported it over the years.

“We’re incredibly proud to have been part of Milton Keynes for 25 years,” said Simon Martin Centre Manager at Midsummer Place. “This celebration is our way of saying thank you to the shoppers, retailers, and community who have made Midsummer Place such a special destination. We look forward to welcoming everyone on 27 September for a day full of fun and festivities.”

Smoke & Pepper is now officially open, and it’s already making waves as one of Midsummer Place’s hottest new dining destinations.

With bold smoky flavours, seasonal ingredients, and a laid-back but elevated vibe, it’s fast becoming a go-to for locals and visitors. From flame-grilled signature mains to indulgent desserts, everything’s packed with flavour but two dishes are stealing the spotlight online.

The Viral Flying Dutchman Burger is making waves on TikTok and Instagram stacked with flame-grilled patties, cheese, and our secret dutchman sauce sandwiched between two caramelised onions as a substitute for burgers.

The Kunafa Dream Cake is another showstopper. A Middle Eastern-inspired dessert layered with crunchy Kunafa, Bruce cake, smooth velvety mouse and topped with a thin layer of chocolate to smash through.. It tastes incredible, and it looks even better on your feed.

Sara Ibrahim, Executive Director of Smoke & Pepper, said:

“From day one, the welcome from the Milton Keynes community has been incredible. We set out to create somewhere people could enjoy both outstanding food and a great atmosphere, and seeing the restaurant buzzing every day has been so rewarding.”

Simon Martin, Centre Manager at Midsummer Place, added:

“Smoke & Pepper has brought a real buzz to the centre. It’s great to see such a dynamic new dining concept become a hit so quickly – it’s proving to be a real destination for food lovers in Milton Keynes.”

Located in the former Michael Kors unit, Smoke & Pepper offers the perfect setting for everything from post-shopping lunches to celebratory dinners. The menu is anchored by smoky grilled mains, fresh salads, and artisan sides, all complemented by a curated drinks list featuring craft mocktails, and locally sourced beverages.

Stage one of the MK Umbrella Project was unveiled in vibrant style! Since March 2025, a striking canopy of 400 rainbow-coloured umbrellas has brightened the Boulevard at Midsummer Place Shopping Centre, inviting thousands of visitors to experience a joyful celebration of neurodiversity in Milton Keynes.

This inspiring installation will remain on display until the end of September. But this is only the beginning of a city-wide commitment to embracing and promoting neuro-inclusion. Real, lasting change begins with people, and their stories.

To ensure the Umbrella Project becomes a true catalyst for cultural transformation, we are inviting members of the community to share their personal experiences with neurodiversity. Whether you are neurodivergent, know someone who is, or simply want to share how neurodiversity has shaped your perspective, your voice matters.

Your story could help:

  • Bust myths and challenge misconceptions
  • Celebrate the richness of neurodiverse experiences
  • Encourage open and inclusive conversations
  • Inspire others to embrace difference

“We’re incredibly proud to host the MK Umbrella Project here at Midsummer Place,” said Simon Martin, Centre Manager. “This project is about more than a stunning visual display, it’s about championing change, encouraging empathy, and creating a safe space for all members of our community. We hope every visitor leaves with a greater understanding of neurodiversity and a willingness to be part of a more inclusive future.”

One of the individuals who has already shared her story, Skye, said:

“Sharing my experience was scary at first, but it felt powerful. For the first time, I felt like people were listening and really seeing me. The Umbrella Project made me feel proud of who I am, and I hope my story helps others feel the same.”

In return for your contribution, you’ll receive one of our exclusive, limited-edition umbrellas currently featured in the Midsummer Place installation. Contributors will be invited to collect their umbrella during the shopping centre’s 25th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, 27th September 2025.

Share your story. Be part of the legacy. Help Milton Keynes become a truly neuro-inclusive city.
