The alien, the author, and the art at MK Gallery

As part of its Creativity and the Curriculum programme, MK Gallery will host a special event on Wednesday 19 October 2022 at which Michael Rosen, former Children’s Laureate, will join teachers from across Milton Keynes primary and secondary schools, academics, informal educators and artists to watch and reflect on the new documentary film Educating Zerena: An Alien Encounter.

The film, directed by Roger Kitchen, tells the extraordinary story of the ‘alien’ Zerena who crash landed into the playground of Newlyn Pace First School in Fishermead, Milton Keynes, 34 years ago, and how she was adopted, taught and kept safe by the pupils and community of Fishermead.

After the screening, there will be a talk by Michael Rosen, introduced by Rodger Kitchen. Q&As will follow.

Attendees will also be invited to see the current MK Gallery exhibitions: Larry Achiampong: Wayfinder, and Educating Zerena – an exhibition of photographs in the Project Space.

The event is produced by Living Archive MK in association with MK Gallery, Inter-Action MK and MAKE. It is supported with funding from MK Community Foundation and MK Council.
