MK’s Green City celebrated at GQT!

Recently, three of the UK’s most celebrated gardening experts take to the stage at The Chrysalis Theatre, Camphill for the recording of Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time. Two shows were recorded on the night and they will be broadcast on Friday 26th August and Friday 2nd September.

With chair Kathy Clugston in the driving seat, the expert panel of Matthew Wilson, Dr Chris Thorogood and Juliet Sargeant answered some very challenging questions from the audience of over 200 local gardeners who’d secured a ticket for the sought-after event.

Twenty people were chosen to come forward with their questions which were not revealed to the panel in advance, leaving the experts to rely entirely on their own knowledge to find answers on the spot.

Opening the event, Kathy Clugston praised Milton Keynes’ vast collection of over 22 million trees before revealing she’d chosen to walk from the train station to the Chrysalis Theatre so that she could enjoy some local landscapes before the recording.

Kathy also interviewed Chief Executive of The Parks Trust, Victoria Miles and explored the charity’s 30-year history.

Victoria said, “It was so exciting to welcome the GQT team to MK and speak with Kathy about thirty years of The Parks Trust. I hope that everyone who attended had a really enjoyable time. MK’s gardeners certainly did the city proud and I can’t wait to hear the final shows.”

Chief Executive of Camphill Milton Keynes Communities, Tim Davies, commented, “Camphill MK was delighted to host Gardeners’ Question Time at our Chrysalis Theatre. The benefits of gardening and the importance of environmental consciousness have always had a positive impact on the people we support. As we currently embark on a five-year capital expansion, this remains embedded in our culture, with green roofs and sustainably sourced materials instrumental to our building process.”
