Willen Lake creates over an acre of free play!

Willen Lake is currently undergoing large scale improvement works to enhance the visitor experience. These works will include a state of the art, fully accessible watersports building including a café and restaurant overlooking the lake as well as a brand-new children’s play area.

The new play area will incorporate the existing one which will be fully refurbished. At over an acre in size, once the expansion is complete, Willen Lake will be home to the biggest free to use play area in Milton Keynes!

The design of this new play area has been created with immersive play in mind, it will have a nautical theme to fit in with the lakeside setting plus all the equipment is being constructed from the highest quality Robinia Wood which will also reflect the natural parkland found at Willen Lake.

The new play area has been designed with different age ranges and needs in mind. There will be a larger play area suitable for slightly older children which will have a wide range of equipment, such as a large lighthouse tower with tunnel slide, a lookout crow’s nest, and a suspension bridge meaning there’s always plenty of fun to be had.

There will also be an area suitable for younger children and those with additional needs that will be situated close to the new watersports and café building. This area will be enclosed on three sides making if safe for little ones to explore. It has also been designed to allow for pushchairs and wheelchairs to easily access the play equipment. The flooring in this area will be made with a rubber crumb to make it smooth and soft and it will also have a wheelchair accessible roundabout, a basket swing and extra wide slides so that there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

To allow The Parks Trust to complete these improvement works they will need to close the current play area for a short period whilst it is being refurbished. They will communicate when these closures are due to take place on their own social media channels and website.
