Milton Keynes International Festival 2010         Milton Keynes International Festival 2010

IF: Milton Keynes International Festival will take place for the first time from 16 – 25 July 2010 presenting an ambitious, high quality programme in locations across Central Milton Keynes.

Inspired by the unique architectural landscape of the city, the Festival’s international, multi-arts programme will include  large-scale family events, promenade concerts, theatre, dance, music and sound, and visual arts installations in unusual locations such as boulevards, parks, public squares, disused shops or warehouses, and also using the online and digital realm.

IF: Milton Keynes International Festival is produced by The Stables in association with Milton Keynes Gallery. It was developed with the initial support of £462,000 from Arts Council England South East following a collaboration between The Stables and Milton Keynes Theatre & Gallery Company, both Regularly Funded Organisations of Arts Council England.

Monica Ferguson, Chief Executive of The Stables and Festival Director said “The idea for the Festival was to use our creative energy to surprise and engage people in new ways – to create ‘10 extraordinary days in 2010’ that we estimate in excess of 80,000 people will enjoy.  IF will make everyone look at Milton Keynes differently.”

The Festival has been put together in a very short space of time, thanks to the dedicated efforts of everyone involved, and in particular Producer Bill Gee who joined the Festival Team towards the end of 2009.

Bill Gee is one of the UK’s leading producers of outdoor festivals and Chair of the Independent Street Arts Network.  His inspiration for the Festival’s programme development has come from the unique landscape and architecture of Milton Keynes. “I was particularly excited by the vision that the city’s founders had to orientate the city around the lay-line on which the sun rises and sets each year on Midsummer’s day – hence Midsummer Boulevard. It gives the city an incredible energy and I want the events to add to that energy across the ten days.”

The Festival has a range of exciting sponsorship and partnership opportunities – please contact Monica Ferguson at The Stables on 01908 280814, or e-mail monica.ferguson@stables.org
