The Milton Keynes Mile sets off through the heart of the city from Midsummer Boulevard and promises to be a jam-packed day of entertainment for everyone. The Sport Relief Weekend is taking place from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 March and it’ll be three whole days of energy, entertainment and events to help the nation rise to the challenge!
Women’s international cricketer Claire Taylor and high jumper Dalton Grant kicked off the campaign on 20 January at Xscape in Milton Keynes.
Milton Keynes Council is working with Sport Relief to deliver the Milton Keynes Mile. MKC Sports Development Manager Richard Davis said: “This is a really big event and we are really
pleased that Milton Keynes has been chosen as one
of only a very few places to hold a flagship Sport Relief run. We want to make this a massive event and we will be working hard over the coming weeks and months to get as many people on board.”
This year the official Sport Relief T-shirts have been exclusively designed by the whole Beckham family. Proud parents Victoria and David, along with their boys, have created a series of one-off designs with the hope of inspiring the nation to rise to the challenge for Sport Relief 2010. The T-shirts go on sale today exclusively in-store and online at Sainsbury’s and TK Maxx and www.sportrelief.com.
A host of famous faces from the world of sport and entertainment will be rising to the challenge this Sport Relief including Christine Bleakley who will be doing the Thomson Sport Relief Water Ski Challenge across the English Channel and Rugby international Lawrence Dallaglio cycling around the Six Nations. Blue Peter’s Helen Skelton will attempt to become the first woman to kayak the Amazon River in aid of Sport Relief.
Tune in for a fantastic night of BBC TV entertainment on Friday 19 March. Highlights include a new ‘Smithy’ sketch from actor James Corden alongside a number of sporting heroes including Jenson Button, special editions of Masterchef and Top Gear. Frank Skinner will be hosting a special edition of A Question of Sport Relief and there will also be a unique Strictly Come Dancing challenge for two twinkle toed celebs.
