Destination Milton Keynes
Treasure Island comes to Milton Keynes
Published - Tuesday, 08 December, 2009
Produced by multi-award winning theatre company Northern Broadsides, the team behind the much loved Heidi – a Goat’s Tale, The Water Babies and the award winning hit Othello starring Lenny Henry, this brand new adaptation is innovative, gripping, fast-paced and action-packed, with a highly imaginative performance style that will surprise and delight family audiences – a real feast for the eyes, ears and imagination.

Treasure IslandNorthern Broadsides has a well-deserved reputation for their theatrical inventiveness, and the use of recycled and found materials.  Two of the most famous characters in Treasure Island, Blind Pew and Ben Gunn, will be life-size puppets, inventively conjured using objects found on the stage.  Puppeteer Lee Threadgold says: “The puppetry in Treasure Island will tread an exciting line of contrasts: sometimes comic, sometimes exploring the darker side of human nature, but always striking at the very core of the characters within.”

With daring swordfights, saucy sea shanties, skeletons, storms, seasickness and scurvy – TREASURE ISLAND is the perfect family treat.  A charismatic cast of multi-talented actors generates a fantastic rapport with the audience, performing with remarkable energy and spirit, and is lead by young heart-breaker Graeme Dalling (Hollyoaks) as Jim Hawkins, together with David Tarkenter, Morgan George, Andy Cresswell and Jenni Molloy who also creates the unusual and haunting music for the show.

This inspiring tale of a boy’s coming-of-age in the cutthroat world of pirates is physical, visual storytelling at its very best, and provides children and young people with a great first experience of theatre.  Featuring some of literature’s greatest characters, including Long John Silver, Blind Pew, Jim Hawkins ….and that parrot, TREASURE ISLAND is suitable for hearty pirates aged aged 7 to 107!
