Bill Strang  conductor

Thursday 29 November 2018 at 1pm
Hub Theatre, The Open University, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes MK7 6AA

Youthful works by two of the greatest Western composers bookend this programme: beginning with Mozart’s ever-so-clever motet Misericordias Domini, written to demonstrate his facility in counterpoint to a potential high-ranking employer; and ending with Schubert’s charming Mass in G written in six days, probably for his local parish church.

In between these two works, the choir performs Mozart’s last completed choral piece, the tiny but exquisite Ave verum corpus; three little gems from the Russian Orthodox repertoire by Stravinsky and Rakhmaninov; and an arrangement by our own conductor, Bill Strang, of the popular hymn Amazing grace which has words by local Olney clergyman John Newton. Soloists will be drawn from the choir which will be accompanied by the Cantoribus Ensemble, a group of instrumentalists from OU staff and the local area assembled to play for OU Choir concerts.

The concert starts at 1pm in the Hub Theatre on The Open University's Walton Hall campus, and will finish at approximately 2pm.
