Revolution Review

Revolution Milton keynes reviewWhen you have theatre tickets booked and you’re looking for something to eat beforehand, you need two things…a) it has to be reasonably close to said theatre and b) you want the service to be pretty quick, making sure you don’t miss the start of the show.

We had tickets to see the ballet at Milton Keynes Theatre and headed to Revolution Bar inside Xscape for a bite to eat beforehand. On the first point, it’s just a five-minute walk to the theatre, so that is a big plus point. The venue has just had a refurbishment and we liked what we saw. It’s got a big long bar area (perfect for the cocktail classes they offer) and a large dining area split into a mixture of booths and tables, with wooden floors and a really nice relaxed atmosphere.

We told our server that we were heading to the theatre, also good to do so they’re aware of your time constraints. First up picking a starter…they have ‘grazers’ which included the slightly alarmingly named ‘Fire Balls’ but we avoided them. With time against us we went for the sharing Nachos, which came quickly and were amazing. A big portion, perfect for two, with loads of toppings – never scrimp on the toppings when it comes to Nachos!

Mains were a really difficult choice, the mac ‘n’ cheese was very tempting as were the fish ‘n’ chips but in the end we settled on a cheese burger and a full rack of ribs. We could have gone for one of the many burger combinations – ‘The Mother Clucker’ with its two beef patties, cheese, corn-battered chicken and streaky bacon is definitely one to try next time.

The mains were very good and excellent value for money at £8.50 for the burger and £12.50 for the ribs. And we’re going to give a special mention for the fries, very good, you can normally judge a chef on their fries, and these hit the mark!

Did we have time for dessert? A quick check of the watch, and of course we did. Although it wasn’t necessarily meant to be shared we chose the Cookie Dough S’More – now brace yourselves…warm choc chip cookie dough, Nutella and mini marshmallows, all served with salted caramel chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream. All we can say is, we’re glad we shared.

The service was really good, we had all this served in just over an hour, so we made our seats at the theatre – although they may have been a tight squeeze after that cookie dough…and we were full to the brim.

Now, we only found out after our visit that Revolution Milton Keynes is actually the top-rated restaurant in MK on Trip Advisor…and although a little surprised, we can see why… great central location, friendly and helpful staff, very good food and all at a really good price. Thumbs up from us.

And since our visit, we’ve also found out they now offer a weekend Bottomless Brunch, which we think deserves to be tried.
