Loch Fyne

Seafood lovers rejoice! The Loch Fyne Restaurant has come to Milton Keynes and if you love any type of seafood then this is the place for you. What strikes you as you enter the restaurant is the naturalness of the place with wood floors, high ceilings and lots of natural light – all making for a calm, relaxed atmosphere.
 
The range of seafood on the menu is staggering. Just about every type of seafood you can think of is catered for. Everything from their famous oysters, mussels and smoked salmon, through to potted brown shrimp, halibut, tuna and seabass – you’ll find it on the menu. You can’t help but notice the many information snippets telling you that as a company, Loch Fyne is dedicated to the protection of our seas and that they do not fish endangered stock; this all helps to make you feel really good inside when ordering your kiln-roasted salmon fillet. Where practical, the fish is delivered daily and comes from Cornwall, and the shellfish comes from Loch Fyne’s own Scottish waters - so the very best of British seafood.

We started with the wonderful smoked haddock chowder which truly took me back to sampling the ‘real’ thing in New England. We also had the wonderfully presented herring fillets, each marinated differently and served with crème fraîche.

For the main course the choice was difficult after we had been given the list of specials and seen one of the amazing shellfish platters go past to a neighbouring table. But we held back and chose the halibut served on a bed of sunblushed tomato pesto and the pan-fried garlic king prawns. The king prawns should have been renamed ‘giant’ as just five of the blighters took up the entire plate, each one dripping in a buttery garlic sauce and tasting simply exquisite. The halibut was cooked to perfection and the pesto tasted fresh and fragrant. One note of caution, if you’re not a fan of seafood then the choice on the menu is limited but then you are in a seafood restaurant.

We finished with a simple, but perfectly executed crème brûlée and the cheese board, which featured a selection of Scottish and Irish cheeses. Both were very tasty although one of the smoked cheeses was very strong. A café latte each finished off a truly wonderful meal in fantastic surroundings. This is a definite must for seafood lovers and it’s great to see a dedicated seafood restaurant in Milton Keynes at last.

Summary:
If you love seafood then you will love this restaurant. Okay, it is a chain but then every restaurant is individual. The food is of a high quality, fresh and delicious. This is a restaurant equally perfect for a large get together with friends or a romantic meal for two.

Parking
FREE 3 hours parking in Sainsburys (2 minute walk) other daytime parking can be difficult and costly (pay and display). Evenings, after 6.00pm, there is plenty of parking available and it is free.

Alfresco dining area available. Separate bar area allows for a drink before your meal.
