intu MK launches state-of-the-art parking

As part of intu Milton Keynes’ ongoing investment into improving its customer experience, the shopping centre officially launched a new and easy to use parking system last week.

The multi-storey car park, which offers cost effective and safe parking in Central Milton Keynes, now features easy to pay options; it is also one of the first places in the region to offer contactless card payment options.

Shelley Peppard, general manager at intu Milton Keynes has overseen the two month project through to completion, she said: “We know there has been a historical issue with car parking payments but thankfully this is now behind us. The new system is simple to use, fast, effective and we have more pay locations on site than ever before.”

The new parking system is another addition to the ongoing improvements intu Milton Keynes is making to the shopping centre. Plans to deliver one of the biggest developments Central Milton Keynes has seen in over a decade have been submitted to Milton Keynes Council by intu and it is expected a decision will be made at the end of the summer. “This is potentially a really exciting time for Milton Keynes. The plans would bring new restaurants, more shops and even a boutique cinema to the centre. We can work on small changes in the centre but to make a real impact, the development plans need to get the green light.”

Other changes within intu Milton Keynes include a relaxing lounging area that has already proved a great success with sore feet and bag-laden customers. The sandpit underneath the ‘Frog Clock’ is also a new permanent addition providing hours of messy fun and the chance for mum and dad to take a break out with their little ones.

Under Shelley’s management she has also shipped in a giant pink handbag – popular with the selfie-generation and the giant deckchair that actually encourages people to climb on it. “There’s no point in putting a great big deckchair in a shopping centre and a sign that says ‘do not sit in this’. So we have a sign that actually encourages people to jump in and take a photo, which is great as it makes people smile.”

intu Milton Keynes has introduced several other ways to make customers smile, including the chandelier over the customer information desk but Shelley says there’s more to come. “Our objective is to make people leave happier than when they arrived. From making customers smile to literally laughing out loud, we want to create a place they want to come back to again and again.”
