Date Posted:09/09/2014

centremk poppy sculptureDonations have been counted and centre:mk are delighted to have raised over £600 for Royal British Legion following the introduction of its poppy memorial, which was installed as a tribute to the one million service men and women from the UK and Commonwealth who died as a result of World War 1.

From Thursday 31 July to Sunday 10 August, shoppers were invited to dedicate and insert a poppy to the sculpture near Middleton Hall in memory of loved ones who are, and have been, active in conflict in the armed force.  At two metres tall the sculpture held an incredible 2,000 poppies.  Donations were left by shoppers as they added their tributes, and via a collection day with representatives from Royal British Legion.

James Waugh, centre director commented “we were delighted with the reaction to the poppy installation, with shoppers embracing the concept over the 11 day period in memory of their loved ones.  In total £619 was raised for the Poppy Appeal, and we look forward to its return to the centre in November.”
