Woughton House celebrates official launch

Date Posted:19/06/2018

Woughton House openingMilton Keynes’ first and only design hotel, Woughton House – MGallery by Sofitel celebrated its official launch on Friday 1 June 2018. Guests were treated to a reception of champagne, cocktails and canapes on the hotel’s picturesque lawns, where they mingled with an array of medieval-costumed characters and witnessed a mock sword fight.

Located in the village of Woughton-On-Green, one of the original medieval villages around which the New Town of Milton Keynes was built, guests were able to admire the acres of stunning parkland, lakes and orchards of the Ouzel Valley Park in the Buckinghamshire countryside.

Along with the luxurious surroundings unique to the MGallery hotels, guests were able to immerse themselves in local history with world-famous characters and cultural insights. The historical time line of Woughton House Hotel and the Medieval Shrunken village served as the ideal backdrop to learn about the era. The lively medieval dance routines, historical narration, poetry, music and interactive participation, provided guests with a lively and unforgettable experience.

Guests were taken on an exciting journey back in time to the origins of the last remaining Shrunken Medieval Village at Woughton-on-the-Green, where they enjoyed a selection of role plays. Entertainment for the evening included classical performers, brought to the hotel by international performance and production company, Say Two Productions. The Shrunken Medieval Village site is a settlement that was abandoned during the Middle Ages, typically leaving no trace apart from earthworks or cropmarks. This unique site survives well as extensive and clearly defined earthworks in an area of permanent pasture and has good potential for the survival of archaeological remains.

The evening also included welcoming speeches from the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Martin Petchey and Aiden Mcauley, Accor VP for Luxury Brands, before the traditional cutting of the ribbon to officially open the new hotel. Guests were then invited to take their seats to experience an exquisite fine dining menu and stunning performance by pianist, Nigel Hammond.
