This December, join the people of Wolverton in celebrating Milton Keynes’ original lantern festival. Staged every year since 1988, Wolverton Lantern Festival is set to take place again on Saturday 5 December between 2-6pm. The Square will be filled with music and dancing from artists, local groups and schools. The parade leaves the Square at 4.30pm and promises stilt-walkers, circus performances, 8ft giant creations and hundreds of homemade lanterns inspired by children’s literature.
If parading is not your thing then perhaps a street market offering something ‘not on the high street’ such as local handmade crafts, artwork, hobby horses, gift ideas and homemade chutneys, jams and delicious hot food from local home-makers and small businesses. As if that’s not enough, inside Foundation House to warm you up will more live music, free children’s activities, face-painting, book stalls and a café serving hot drinks, cakes and hot pastries. Winter in Wolverton is a wonderland not is not to be missed.
Wolverton Lantern Festival is about the process and participation and workshops began in October. This creates such a magical atmosphere. Everyone involved puts their heart and soul into all aspects of this festival, which they hope creates a legacy for Wolverton's community and a spectacle for visitors. Working year round the volunteers share a common interest in the town and aim to provide an inspirational event. From samba workshops, transforming the Square with beautiful light to the giant creations that the children work hard on for weeks ahead of the big day. Saturday 5 December promises to be the culmination of some very special people’s effort and time.
