Wicked figures for Milton Keynes Theatre

Date Posted:28/02/2014

WICKED, the global musical phenomenon that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, has become the biggest hit musical in the history of the Milton Keynes Theatre with over 45,000 people seeing the spectacular production during its engagement. The hit musical will play is final performance on Saturday 8 March 2014 (before heading off for its Welsh premiere at the Wales Millennium Centre). Some tickets are still available at Monday-Thursday performances next week.

Executive Producer, Michael McCabe said: “Audiences in Milton Keynes have been incredible and we thank them, and all of the staff at the theatre, for their generous welcome and support during our fantastic run. We are thrilled and grateful that so many people attended performances”.

Mike Keane, Milton Keynes Theatre General Manager agreed: “It has been a genuine pleasure having Wicked at the venue these past weeks, our audiences’ ecstatic reaction to this phenomenal show is a joy to behold at the end of every performance. On behalf of MKT, I would personally like to thank the producers, cast, crew and the entire Wicked family for bringing this spectacle to a record-breaking audience at Milton Keynes Theatre.”

Wicked received rave reviews from local critics and standing ovations from the audiences. The Milton Keynes Citizen said “this distinctive, green-hued saga of witchery really is the perfect prequel – and sensational sequel – to the familiar tale of Oz”, MK News said: “there is absolutely nothing to fault Wicked, and you can be assured of a fantastic night out at MK Theatre” and Luton Today said: “there’s a reason Wicked is one of the most popular shows in recent West End and Broadway history. Basically, it’s fantastic!”

The award-winning London production continues its open-ended run at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, where it is now in its 8th year. The “hugely popular show” (The Times) is already the 15th longest-running musical in West End theatre history and recently celebrated its 3000th landmark performance.

Around the world, Wicked has already been seen by over 39 million people and has 9 productions running concurrently. The original Broadway production remains “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times) after a decade at the Gershwin Theatre.

In a brilliantly witty re-imagining of the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
