Theatre District lights up for Christmas

Date Posted:03/12/2014

Milton Keynes Theatre DistrictThe 2014 Theatre District Christmas event on Sunday 30th November yet again attracted thousands, who enjoyed three hours of sensational entertainment and helped raise this year’s charity – The Henry Allen Trust – a massive £1,760!

Highlights of the Light Switch On included the very best line up of local MK talent organised by Real Music MK, probably the best calibre of performers on stage at this event to date!  13 year old singer, Lydia Singer, was amazing and definitely a star in the making, and Bailey McConnell took time out to meet and greet as well as take to the stage for a great performance.  As ever the crowds loved Joe as Olly Murs, Scott Finley and a fantastic local band The Shures, who again are a group to watch.

There were wonderful choirs both adult (Alive & Singing) and children (Barleyhurst Park Primary School) plus dancers from Leanne Hughes Theatre School and the incredible MKCA cheerleaders.  Not to be outdone by what was happening on the stage there was plenty of other famous guests including Father Christmas in his grotto, Lightening McQueen and Chips (the cars!), plus loads of characters from films, especially plenty from Star Wars and even a lone Lego Movie Man!

Dawn and Mark Allen set up The Henry Allen Trust in memory of their wonderful son, Henry, who sadly passed away last year aged only 4 after battling the aggressive childhood cancer Neuroblastoma.  They want, through the charity, to bring happiness, where they can, to other children, and their families, who are also fighting cancer.

Dawn said, ‘we were so pleased to be given the opportunity to be part of this amazing event and the money raised will make such a huge difference locally.  It was a very emotional day and we were incredibly touched by the support we received’.

Skylah-Mae and her family, who the charity have helped during the time Skylah-Mae has been receiving treatment, along with Patrons of The Henry Allen Trust - Ann Marie Davies, Karl Robinson and Bailey McConnell, switched on the Christmas lights.  It was also the first time the ‘Sound Dome’ on the Theatre District has had a Christmas make over and had its own Christmas Switch On!  The evening event was full of surprises and during the switch on The UK Garrison presented The Henry Allen Trust a cheque for £5,000 from all their charity fundraising throughout the year.

Sara Mills, Marketing Manager on the Theatre District said, ‘our Christmas event goes from strength to strength and this year definitely raised the most money for our charity to date.  It is a pleasure to be able to support local charities like The Henry Allen’s Trust, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who gave their time to help make the day the triumph it was.  We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and would like to wish the whole of MK a very Merry Christmas from all at the Theatre District.’
