TEDxOpenUniversity is coming!

Date Posted:21/05/2019

TEDx Open UniversityThis full-day TEDx event on Friday 8th November 2019 will be curated by a team based at the OU.  Our goal is to bring together bright minds to give talks that are idea-focused, and on a wide range of subjects, to foster learning, inspiration and wonder – and provoke conversations that matter.

Our first ever event’s theme – Imagine What’s Next - is aspirational, provocative, challenging and something loads of people will want to be a part of.

There’s been huge change in our lifetime – the internet, the space race, mobile phones, medical advances, new music forms, financial technology, social media, innovative building designs, changes in our climate, robotics and the global population explosion. The list is endless.

But Imagine What’s Next for our world.

There are infinite possibilities for how our lives could change in future generations on a local, national, international and interplanetary level.  Hear from world-leading speakers at TEDxOpenUniversity as we explore what’s next, share exciting ideas and bring new perspectives. We are challenging everyone to Imagine What’s Next.

So why are we telling you all this?  Because we want you to get involved, the call for speakers is now open!

Please note the following for your application:

  • Anyone can apply to be a speaker, not limited to OU Staff or students. Application deadline is 31 May 2019.
  • All parts of the application process must be completed to be considered - no late or incomplete entries will be accepted; Application; Two-minute piece to camera pitch video; Agreement with our speaker release; Agreement with privacy notice
  • Before applying, applicants should review the TEDx Speaker Guide and watch some TEDx examples
  • All details on how to apply can be found on the TEDxOpenUniversity website
  • Those selected must also be available for two coaching sessions and two rehearsals- non-attendance will void their spot and another will be selected.

Your talk will be filmed and an edit will be hosted on the TEDx YouTube channel. Just as with all speakers, we would work together ahead of time to craft the talk. Your talk can be between 6 to 18 minutes, on a topic of your choice related to the theme.  We have limited slots available and a selection panel will review all applications.  They will be in touch with applicants throughout the selection process.

The event is open to public for attendance. Tickets will be allocated using a ballot system - more details will be released in June.
