Stay switched off this summer with Xscape Unplugged

Date Posted:30/07/2015

Xscape Milton KeynesIt’s not often that we’re encouraged not to check in on Facebook or share what you’re up to on Twitter nowadays, but Xscape is asking families to do just that with Xscape Unplugged.

In today’s digital age, we can all admit to spending a little too much time glued to a screen and switched on to our mobiles, tablets and televisions.

The facts are there to prove it too...

A recent survey of 6,000 UK parents* found that the average parent with a smartphone uses it a whopping 240 times a day; that’s the equivalent of around four hours a day staring at a screen! It’s not just a parent-problem either; more than 80% of secondary school age children in the UK own a smartphone.**

To remind us of what’s really important in life, Milton Keynes’ leading entertainment destination, Xscape, is asking families to go gadget free and enjoy some family fun activities to suit all ages.

This August, Xscape will be bringing some larger-than-life versions of some of our favourite apps to the centre including a kamikaze catapult game and buccaneer battleships that are guaranteed to make even the most avid gadget-lovers to ditch their device.

There’s also free pop-up Ping Pong at Xscape for all-ages to enjoy thanks to Make a Difference; inspiring young people to make a difference to their lives and the lives of others.

What’s more, Xscape is excited to announce that local singing sensation Holly Brewer, rumoured to be appearing on this year’s series of The X Factor will be opening the Xscape Unplugged stage on Friday 7 August at 1pm.

The Milton Keynes singer, who recently performed at the celebrity wedding of the year of Mark and Michelle Wright, will be performing an acoustic set live at Xscape as part of a Unplugged sets in the centre.

“We’re really excited to have such an eclectic range events for families to enjoy this summer,” said Ross Jordan, general manager at Xscape MK.

“Our Unplugged campaign is a chance for people to enjoy a ‘digital detox’ and take part in something new, either with one of our intriguing Unplugged activities or one of our exciting experiences such as snowboarding, skydiving or rock climbing!”
