PLANNING APPLICATION SUBMITTED FOR TRANSFORMATION OF INTU MILTON KEYNES

·         Flagship stores, new dining quarter, a boutique cinema and green community spaces

·         77% approval rating for the proposals during public consultation period

Intu Milton Keynes has submitted its planning application to Milton Keynes Council for the transformation of the shopping centre that will bring a new and exciting leisure experience to Central MK.

The proposals focus on the redevelopment of Midsummer Boulevard and Oak Court within intu Milton Keynes and were unveiled at a public consultation in the shopping centre and online in mid-March. Over three quarters of those who completed a questionnaire after seeing the proposals supported intu's plans and a similar number said the scheme would provide a better experience when visiting the city centre. Two thirds of respondents are likely to visit more often as a result.

"Oak Court and the boulevard are busy thoroughfares but not a positive use of space. These proposals will create outstanding areas overlooked by prime, flagship retail stores and the best catering quarter in Milton Keynes," said Paul Lancaster, regional centre director at intu.

The transformation of the shopping centre will be one of the most significant retail and leisure development projects that Central Milton Keynes has seen in over a decade. If approved, a new dining quarter, over two levels, will deliver a choice of places to eat in a relaxed and comfortable environment. A five-screen boutique cinema will provide a special experience with luxurious seating and a quality food offer while showing blockbuster and alternative films.

Outside the shopping centre, new landscaped areas and public realm will provide a relaxing place for lunchtime workers and families throughout the day. The Boulevard will be used for community events and entertainment, retaining intu Milton Keynes' position at the heart of the community.
