Milton Keynes Monopoly goes on sale

Date Posted:23/10/2014

LOVE them – or HATE them?  They are the iconic symbol of Milton Keynes. But now the city’s famous ‘Concrete Cows’ sculptures are to spread their hooves.

Visitors to MK are drawn to the Cows the split second their eyes fall on the MK landscape. Now the cows are to have another new home as they take up residence on MONOPOLY’s most controversial location Old Kent Road in the new official MONOPOLY: Milton Keynes Edition, out this Friday (October 24th 2014). The launch of the board in the heart of MK comes on the same day as it hits shop shelves - both virtual and online.

The launch is to be a public event with the public being invited to take videos and pictures and put them online. As for the Cows – they are tipped to be SMILING say the MONOPOLY chiefs. “A massive coup,” claims the head of the team that has put the board together. Dan Taylor, MONOPOLY Development Director at Winning Moves UK - makers of this new official board under license from MONOPOLY makers Hasbro - says: “We reckon Old Kent Road was the perfect compromise for the Concrete Cows. It’s a location on the MONOPOLY board that is big in profile just like the Cows are in Milton Keynes, even if a little small in actual MONOPOLY terms.”

The Cows are to appear on the MONOPOLY: Milton Keynes Edition board’s most controversial site – a brown site – it will be announced at the board’s launch. But far from being browned off the Cows will be celebrating all over the city. They are so tickled pink (or black and white as they are) to be on the board’s most modest site that they will be celebrating in style by wearing trademark MONOPOLY top hats.

At the official launch – at intu Milton Keynes - the new MONOPOLY: Milton Keynes Edition 22 MK landmarks will be revealed. Adds Mr Taylor. “Yes, Old Kent Road may be low on the board but it’s very high in profile.”

The Milton Keynes MONOPOLY ‘Big Reveal’ will also see a gigantic five foot square replica of the board unveiled in “spectacular style”. Adds Mr Taylor: “Perhaps it will be our most spectacular launch anywhere in the world in MONOPOLY’S proud 79-year history.”

Bletchley Park has landed on the top exclusive Mayfair position, with in all, 22 MK MONOPOLY property sites replacing the famous London MONOPOLY streets. Many sets are themed – including a tourism one headed up by Gulliver’s Theme Parks.

Martin Hindson, General Manager at intu Milton Keynes, says: “The Concrete Cows are synonymous with Milton Keynes so it’s wonderful that they have their very own spot on the board. The Cows are the very first thing many people think of when it comes to Milton Keynes so we think it’s great that they’re first on the board!”.
