MPs show their support for MK during English Tourism Week

Date Posted:23/03/2018

English Tourism WeekOrganised by VisitEngland, English Tourism Week celebrates the vibrancy and quality of England’s many visitor experiences, and our local MPs were keen to show their support for Milton Keynes.

The visitor economy is worth over £232 million a year to Milton Keynes and the diverse range of attractions the area offers, make it a rising location on the tourist map.

With one of the UK’s leading museums, Bletchley Park, on it’s doorstep plus many other top regional attractions such as Xscape, Gulliver’s Land, Stadium MK and Willen Lake, Milton Keynes is keen to shout about its UK destination credentials.

During English Tourism Week, Destination MK, the city’s official tourism and visitor service, encouraged people via social media to say what their favourite visitor attraction in the area was. Local MPs Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart helped out by announcing their personal favourites.

Mark Lancaster said: “Milton Keynes has so much to offer. We are not just concrete cows and roundabouts. I am delighted visitor numbers are on the up and long may that continue.

“I have a lot of favourite local attractions, but as a resident of Olney I will have to give a shout out to the Cowper and Newton Museum, which celebrates the work and lives of two famous local residents: William Cowper and John Newton, visit the museum to find out more!”

Iain Stewart MP added, “We have done a fantastic job over the last few years promoting Milton Keynes. From the Rugby World Cup, to our 50th Birthday, MK is now firmly on the map as a great place to visit.

“In terms of a favourite attraction it is very hard to choose! But, I am a huge fan of Alan Turing and the work he did at Bletchley Park, so I will have to go with that!”
