Fred Roche Gardens to host a Midsummer Picnic

Date Posted:09/06/2015

Fred Roche GardensOn Friday 19 June from 4 – 8pm, residents, employees and visitors to Central Milton Keynes are invited to join patrons of the Fred Roche Foundation in attending a Midsummer Picnic in the city’s very own secret hideaway, The Fred Roche Gardens.

Lying in the heart of the city between offices on Midsummer and Silbury Boulevards, the Fred Roche Gardens offer a stunning haven in the busy commercial district of Central Milton Keynes.  They serve as a memorial to Fred Roche, a former general manager for Milton Keynes Development Corporation in the 1970s who was responsible for overseeing the development of much of Central Milton Keynes.  The Fred Roche Foundation has worked with city stakeholders MKCCM, MKFM, MK Council and MK Community Foundation in delivering this event.

In celebration of National Picnic Week, The Midsummer Picnic will feature food and drink stalls including a hog roast, donuts, sandwiches and a Pimms tent – though visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics and enjoy the selection of local musical talent performing throughout the evening.  The gardens will also feature games for small and big kids alike.  The event will be hosted by MKFM.

Val Roche, Fred’s wife and patron of the Fred Roche Foundation commented, “We are delighted to hold the inaugural Midsummer Picnic on Friday 19 June and look forward to the local community joining us in the Gardens, many of whom will be visiting for the first time.  We hope they’ll enjoy the city’s secret haven as much as we do!”
