Eco Weekend at intu Milton Keynes

Date Posted:03/05/2016

Eco Weekend intu MKOn Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 May, intu Milton Keynes will be celebrating all things green, showcasing the best environmental initiatives from stores within the centre as well as services from across the city.

For mini eco warriors there will be a chance to create a pedal-powered paint spinning masterpiece; they can race the cyclists on a pedal-powered Scalextric; and they can take part in green-themed craft workshops and colouring in – all activities are FREE. There will be a wall jam-packed with facts about intu Milton Keynes and brands within the centre, enabling shoppers to find out more about what environmental processes take place behind the scenes.

Thames Valley Police will be in centre offering cyclists the chance to get their bikes marked and to learn more about keeping safe on the roads. MK Council and Reconomy will also be at the event, along with the RSPB which will be inspiring people to give nature a home in their gardens with interactive examples of bug hotels and bird homes, children can do some bird anatomy puzzles on Saturday and make their very own dragonfly on Sunday. Chargemaster will also be demonstrating electric car charging points.

Flo and the rest of the team from Willen Hospice will be signing people up to the MK Midnight Moo which takes place on Saturday 16 July, starting and finishing at intu Milton Keynes. The walk not only raises awareness and funds for the good work that Willen Hospice does, but promotes wellness through walking – the ultimate green method of transport.

Anyone wanting to recycle old teddies that need a new loving home can do so by dropping it off at the teddy bear donation station; these will be collected throughout the weekend and donated to local children’s groups and charities in Milton Keynes.

intu is committed to protecting the environment and operating its centres in the most efficient way possible. The company has made great progress towards achieving measurable outcomes. Last year it boosted its recycling rate to 72% and recorded a reduction in energy intensity of 13%, to note just two of our targets.

One of the key projects at intu Milton Keynes this year is the regeneration of parts of the famous Redways, creating a better environment for the local community to enjoy, as well as helping to encourage wildlife in the area. Intu plans to build on this project, heading into 2017, by partnering with The Conservation volunteers and local people to set up a Green Gym.

More will be announced in the coming weeks but for anyone wanting to reduce their carbon footprint and find out more about how others are doing so, don’t miss intu Milton Keynes’ Eco Weekend.
