Destination MK hosts Rugby World Cup reception

Date Posted:29/09/2015

Rugby World Cup Milton KeynesDestination Milton Keynes (DMK), the official Destination Management Organisation for the city, helped to officially welcome the Rugby World Cup to MK with a City Reception held at MK Theatre.

Just days before the first match at Stadium MK between France and Canada, local dignitaries were joined by Andrew Cosslett, Chairman or England Rugby 2015 to talk about the tournament so far and the benefits that the city can expect to see.

The Mayor of Milton Keynes welcomed guests and spoke of his pride at being Mayor at such an historic and important time for Milton Keynes.

Mr Cosslett then spoke about the records that the tournament had already broken over just its first two weeks, and of how Milton Keynes had proved itself time and time again throughout the build up to the tournament, and was now firmly ready to be a Host City.

Other speakers included Pete Winkelman, Chairman of MK Dons FC and Geoff Snelson of MK Council who spoke about the financial benefits to Milton Keynes but also about the huge team of people behind the scenes who had helped make it all happen.

Finally, David Foster from The Parks Trust talked about the Fanzone in Campbell Park and the Festival of Rugby due to take place across 10 days.

The event was a fitting start to Milton Keynes’ Rugby World Cup adventure. For more information visit www.lovemkrugby.co.uk.
