City Centre lights up before 2,500 residents

Date Posted:25/11/2014

MK Christmas LightsAfter months of planning, the city centre lights are finally on and Midsummer Boulevard is firmly lit for the Christmas period.  The management team of MKCCM would like to say a massive thank you to headline partners Milton Keynes Council, centre:mk and intu Milton Keynes – and an even bigger thank you to the thousands of residents who joined us for the weekend’s festivities.

Over the course of the day the public enjoyed a variety of bands and performances thanks to hosts MKFM before intu Milton Keynes’ annual parade swept round the centre and arrived at the stage in time for a performance from the stars of Milton Keynes Theatre’s pantomime Peter Pan.  At 5pm the lights were switched on by Father Christmas, the Mayor of Milton Keynes Derek Eastman, Peter Pan and Wendy to huge cheers from the crowds.  The switch on culminated with a tremendous laser and pyrotechnic show to be seen across the city centre.

MKCCM’s city centre manager Melanie Beck commented, “We are delighted the event was so well received with over 2,500 people joining us as we lit Midsummer Boulevard for the first time in Milton Keynes’ history.  We’d like to thank our partners centre:mk, Milton Keynes Council  and intu Milton Keynes for their support in bringing the project to life. We’re looking forward to making this even better next year!”

MKCCM are now calling for the public to send their photos and videos of the event for a chance to win a festive prize.  For your chance to win, like MKCCM on Facebook and post your photos and videos on their wall using the hashtag #mklights.  A winner will be announced on MKCCM’s Facebook on Monday 1 December.

“We were amazed how the public engaged with the event on the day using social media,” continued Melanie.  “Now, we’re looking forward to seeing even more photos and choosing our favourite one for a festive prize.  Just don’t forget the hashtag!”

For your chance to win make sure you’ve liked MKCCM on Facebook (facebook.com/MKCityCentreManagement) and post your images on their wall.  You can also follow MKCCM on Twitter (twitter.com/MiltonKeynesCCM)
