The different species in the African savannah area graze together – rhino, zebra, antelope and congo buffalo inspiring the feeling of being on a real safari. The animals are free to visit you and the coach may well have to give way to zebra crossing! The Kingdom of the Carnivore is an exciting journey into the world of tigers, bears and wolves and the African Lion. Woburn has the largest single pride of African lion in Europe – currently totaling some 17 animals – which live in a single reserve larger than most entire zoos in the UK. The lions act as a pride in the wild and there is plenty of interaction between the family members.
The newest members are three cubs, Brandy, Baileys and Tia who made their appearance into the reserves in October. The African Forest is one of the most popular areas of the park – the mischievous monkeys are always looking for trouble. This is the largest mixed primate area in Europe – Colobus, Patas and Barbary Macaques live here together. For coaches that don’t want to brave the Forest – there is always a bypass!
In the Wild World Leisure Area, visitors take to their feet to explore areas with some of the more approachable animals! The Lemurs are a great hit – in Land of the Lemurs visitors take a raised walkway through the trees and the lemurs come and go at will – they are very happy to come over the see the visitors! Monkey Business is also a walkthrough area, this time with mischievous squirrel monkeys, whilst in the Australian Walkabout, visitors walk amongst wallabies – and look out for joeys, they can often be seen peeping out of their mother’s pouch. At Rainbow Landing, rainbow lorikeets will fly down and drink nectar from your hand. There is a busy programme all day of keeper talks and demonstrations, elephants, sea lions and penguins are some of the favourites!
For groups with children (although adults of course can play too!) the many playgrounds, including the new Mammoth Play Ark which is the biggest indoor playground in the region, and other activities such as boats on the lake or the railway train are all included in the entry price.
There’s no need to bring a picnic either – groups can pre-book a group meal or if eating individually just head for either the Safari Restaurant or the Two by Two restaurant in the Mammoth Ark. There are delicious healthy options and lots of choice.
Woburn Safari Park has a discounted price (33% less than an individual ticket) for groups of 12 or more on a coach or minibus of £12.00 for an adult, £10.00 for a Senior Citizen and £9.50 for a child. All attractions are included in the entry price. Guidebooks and the new CD audio tour to be played in-coach are available to add to the experience or for an extra charge you can book a ranger for a guided tour of the Safari Drive.
There is a great value joint ticket too for those groups that would like to have a taste of life on Safari and also visit Woburn Abbey. These two great attractions can be seen in one day for just £16 for an adult (£14 for a senior, £10.50 for a child). This was one of the most popular choices for groups to Woburn in 2007.
