Tour Series comes to Milton Keynes
Published - Friday, 17 April, 2009
The first ever Tour Series in Britain’s history will be kicked off in Milton Keynes on 21 May, with the spectacular cycle races taking place right in the heart of the city. Uniquely the Series will focus on the teams rather than individual riders, with ten top British teams battling it out to be crowned number one. Milton Keynes has been chosen as host of a top professional cycling race for the second year running, with last year’s Tour of Britain putting the city firmly on the cycling map.

An hour-long televised Tour Series race will take place in the evening (7pm) and will see ten best cycling teams competing against each other; including the Milton Keynes-based Team Corley Cycles, with a prospect of Olympic Medallist Chris Newton racing through Central Milton Keynes as part of his team. The race is expected to attract thousands of spectators.

During the day, there will be a range of other cycling activities organised specifically for the city residents, visitors and businesses. Children and adults of all abilities will have a chance to team race on the professional cycling track, as well as enjoy a variety of cycling demonstrations and skills sessions running throughout the afternoon.

The afternoon cycling activities, organised by Milton Keynes Council and supported by local businesses across the borough, aim to raise awareness of the well-being benefits of cycling, in addition to highlighting the outstanding facilities available to the city cyclists, from relaxing cycle trails to mountain biking and bmx dirt tracks.

Gin Corrado, events coordinator at Milton Keynes Council, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting the first ever race of the Tour Series.  We are looking forward to be embarking on this new adventure and would like to invite all cycling lovers to join us on the day and enjoy the extraordinary experience of top-class racing”.
