A right Royal occasion

As HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh visit the town, Milton Keynes residents turned out in force to welcome the Royal couple to this very unique location.

Milton Keynes has a lot to be proud of including  the new hub:mk complex, a spectacular 20,000 seater stadium - home to the Milton Keynes Dons football club, a new St John's Ambulance Centre and some of the best residents in the country who wanted to make the Royal visit an extra special day for the town.

The Queen has visited Milton Keynes on a number of previous occasions but her last visit was back in 1992 when she attended the Dedication Service at Church of Christ the Cornerstone. As the fastest growing town in the UK, the intervening 15 years since that visit have seen Milton Keynes under go some simply staggering changes, and the changes just keep on coming.

This Royal visit pulled together a multitude of differents groups within the town from business leaders to community groups, and school children to performers all wanting to show how proud they are of their town. During their visit the Royal couple officially opened thehub:mk a vibrant new shopping, eating and entertainment district right in the very heart of the town. They also officially opened the new stadium:mk by releasing a single red balloon into the sky above the pitch to commemorate that famous advertisement that helped launch the new town all those years ago.

This day will remain in the memories of many people over the years - the day that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II came to visit Milton Keynes.
