Sponsored by thecentre:mk, Routeco, Milton Keynes Council and The Homes and Communities Agency, the exhibition will focus on the many different aspects of sport and leisure heritage that the city has watched, taken part in and ultimately lived through over the last 100 years or more.
The exhibition will feature an ‘Activity Area’ where school-children will come and try out a range of sporting activities including football skills with expert coaching from MK Dons, Korfball, Rugby, Basketball and much more. On Tuesday 20 January at 5.30pm, the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Jan Lloyd, will attend a special reception at the exhibition where she will give a speech on how Milton Keynes’ own heritage and development has been linked to sport and leisure, this will be followed by a performance of street dance from local dance group ‘Variations’ and a display from MK Springers Gymnastics Club. Other activities planned over the two day exhibition include a demonstration Korfball match on Tuesday at 3.45pm and Bollywood style dance routines at 4.30 on Wednesday.
The exhibition will also feature personal stories of achievement in the area such as Dorothy Scouler from Deanshanger who won a gold medal in the Women’s Olympics in Sweden in 1926 and Pete Winkelman’s determination to build StadiumMK and bring league football to the city.
The exhibition is open both days from 9.30am to 6.00pm and is completely FREE for everyone. So why not come up in your lunch hour or after work, or just pop by for a browse around and grab a coffee while you’re doing your shopping - you’ll be amazed at what you discover!
