The Stables has teamed up with creative arts charity ‘Create’ to present these events for the first time in this region. The concerts provide a relaxed environment for children with disabilities and their families to enjoy high quality music in a fun and informal way.
Each 75 minute event gives the families the opportunity to just sit back and hear live music, or they join in with the music-making and other activities with the help of a friendly workshop leader. The seating will be laid out in an informal style around tables with coloring and mask making activities laid out on the tables.
There will be plenty of space for movement for anyone who feels like dancing and percussion instruments are handed out during the event so that everyone can join in the music-making and have fun.
The music will be performed by the exceptionally talented pianist, Derek Paravicini, who is blind and has severe learning difficulties, and has appeared on the BBC documentary Fragments of Genius (2001) and Extraordinary People: The Musical Genius (2006). He will be performing alongside the Antonio Forcione Quartet, regular performers at The Stables and admired by audiences around the country for their sublime sound inspired by jazz, world and folk music. With Antonio’s phenomenal guitar playing they will take the audience on an inspiring musical journey around the world.
Graeme Surtees, Head of Education and Community Engagement at The Stables, said ‘It can be very difficult for some families to find any kind of music event where they can all enjoy great music and spend time as a family. The Stables is a great venue that’s also really flexible and has a national reputation for high quality music. We want to open that up to families who may not be able to go to other live music events and to give children with disabilities the chance to interact with the music in ways that they can enjoy.”
Tickets for the event can be booked at The Stables Box Office on 01908 280800. Ticket prices: Adult £6 Children £4 or Family Ticket £15 (2 adults and 2 children) www.stables.org
