Psychiatrist Martin Dysart (Simon Callow) is brought the most challenging case of his career by magistrate Hester Saloman (Linda Thorson). Alan Strang (Alfie Allen) seems like a normal seventeen year old. His life is routine and his family loving. However, Alan’s passion for horses and his first experience with a girl, stable-hand Jill (Laura O’Toole) has led him to behave in the most devastating way. Only Dysart seems able to grasp the answer to this psychological puzzle.
Simon Callow is, without a doubt, one of our greatest living actors. His string of credits include the films A Room With a View, Four Weddings and a Funeral and Shakespeare in Love.
Alfie Allen, like sister Lily, is the latest rising star of the Allen family, having starred alongside Keira Knightley in the blockbuster film Atonement.
Linda Thorson is an award winning stage actress but she reached iconic status for the character she created; Tara King in the cult TV series The Avengers. Most recently Linda has played Rosemary Sinclair in Emmerdale.
EQUUS was first produced by the National Theatre in 1973. The revival in 2007 starring Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe was the first major production in over thirty years. Peter Shaffer’s other credits include the multi-award winning Amadeus and The Royal Hunt of Sun, also recently revived by the National Theatre.
The national tour of EQUUS is, once again, directed by Thea Sharrock and designed by John Napier. One of the country’s most in demand directors, Thea’s recent credits include the Donmar Warehouse production of A Voyage Round My Father and Heroes which won the Olivier Award for Best Comedy. John Napier’s past work has included award winning designs for Nicholas Nickleby, Cats, Starlight Express, Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.
