The Living Archive presents the OurPlace:MK exhibition which will celebrate the Pioneers and Heroes who have played a significant part in the development of the Milton Keynes area, its businesses and its community.

The two day exhibition takes place on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 January 2008 in Middleton Hall, at thecentre:mk. Sponsored by English Partnerships, thecentre:mk and Routeco, the exhibition aims to highlight the many great achievements by people connected to this area. From royal physicians and famous codebreakers to business leaders and sports stars – Milton Keynes has a rich cultural and historical past.

The exhibition will bring to life some of the areas most famous Pioneers and Heroes with a range of displays showing how their lives unfolded and how what they achieved has affected us all and left an undeniable legacy.

Displays will include a replica of a wartime codebreakers’ hut, lace-makers, architectural models, period re-enactors, badminton coaching sessions, company histories and the chance to get your face on the front page of a newspaper. You can also take part in activities including codebreaking and bonnet-making, and have the chance to tell your stories of Milton Keynes.

The exhibition will also announce the winner of Greatest Milton Keynes Pioneer or Hero. A shortlist has been drawn up of some of the famous names, both past and present, who have contributed to the success of Milton Keynes. The public will vote for their Greatest Pioneer or Hero in the lead up to the exhibition and the overall winner will be announced by the Mayor on 22 January.
