Mascot Mayhem in Milton Keynes
Published - Sunday, 14 June, 2009
The Milton Keynes Family Festival – The Big Moo – is taking place for the 3rd year running this year on 11th and 12th July and the line up of acts on the main stage this year is exceptional.

On Saturday 11th the award winning Theatre District Mascot Olympics will run throughout the day, but in between events they have the likes of Dan Magness who will be displaying his skill and tricks with a ball and has just become the World Record holder for keeping a football off the ground for 24hours, the MK Community Choir, Spectrum Arts singers, Fuzion and there will be an interactive session to get you laughing with Jo Eadie from the Laughter Club.  Later on they will be joined by local talent including Meggie We Can’t Fly, Daniela Bove, Kids with Crow Feet and Noon Layer.

On the Sunday they have some amazing bands joining us from far and wide and several currently play the circuit in London.  The stage will kick off at 12 noon with Monkey Finger who will be followed by Zeitgeist, Murray Hockridge, J Leon, Mind Warp Pavilion and Groove 8 (who are actually a 9 piece band), each playing a 40 minute set.  Marine Kulture, a fantastic electronica band, who are travelling up from London will start their session at 6.30pm and it will finish around 8pm after Stonesoul.
Also in the main arena on the Sunday there will be two displays of the Acorn Dog Training Crufts display team showcasing obedience to music mainly with children handling the dogs.  The first display will be at 11.30 and will start the Big Moo on the Sunday.

There will also be a second arena set up on Avebury Boulevard offering free workshops for all ages over the two days.  The MK Parkour team will be demonstrating their skills and teaching the basics to anyone who would like a go, Dan Magness will be taking workshops and teaching a few ball control tricks, there will be Laughter Yoga sessions and plenty more activities for anyone and everyone to get involved with.

As well as all that they have a great selection of Milton Keynes’ local clubs attending including the Dive club complete with boat, the nationally acclaimed Scale Model Club offering assistance with any models you are currently attempting, the Astronomy Club and the MK Aviation Society.   Loads of the great local sporting teams are also going to be out and about demonstrating their skills including MK Dons and the basketball team MK Lions plus the MK Dodgeball and Korfball teams to name a few …. so if you fancy a new sport, pop down to the festival and find out more.

John Best, co-organiser of the Big Moo 3 said, ‘it is amazing how Milton Keynes has really got behind the event this year, especially considering it has been organised so late in the day due to the economic climate which has caused many such events to be cancelled.  We are so pleased to be able to put this on for Milton Keynes, and it is all thanks to a lot of hard work from a dedicated group of people who have given their time for free, and the many sponsors and supporters.   The most exciting thing though from my point of view is the fact this is just a taster for MK`s International Cow Parade next year which will really put this city on the map during 2010.

It is impossible to mention everyone who is going to be part of this event this year, suffice to say it is going to be an amazing two days and every stall will offer activities for all ages free of charge, so a true family festival with something for everyone.

The Big Moo Family Festival is being held on Avebury Boulevard and into The Theatre District this year and will start at 10am on Saturday 11th July and at 11.30am on Sunday 12th 10am until 4.30pm and encompasses six different challenges for the mascots throughout the day including welly-wanging (throwing Wellington boots), a toboggan plunge over in Sno:Zone and a rather chaotic and messy egg and spoon race.

The Big Moo Family Festival is being held on Avebury Boulevard and into The Theatre District this year.  As well as 2 days of packed stage and arena entertainment, the Mascot Olympics and Emmetts fun fair they also have a terrific line up of local groups, charities and clubs who will be providing free of charge family fun for all ages plus great free workshops.
