Milton Keynes, April 9th, 2009:  The MK showcase gig to launch the album release takes place on Saturday 25th April 2009 at the SNO!bar Xsacpe, (8pm-2am, free entry, over 18s only). The line-up includes amazing acts such as Daniela Bove, Speeding Mellow and the Crying Coach, The Kid With Crows Feet, MILES, Three4Ten, DEFine and many more.

The “Songs From Grid City” compilation album was initially devised as part of a University project by Commercial Music student Hannah Merrington, with an aim to promote the music of her fair city; Milton Keynes. She gathered tracks and images from a selection of local musicians and artists and released the album via iTunes completely off her own back. With the realization that there is not much in the way of a platform for musicians in the ‘Grids’- (a nickname fondly given to the city by the youth as MK is based on the American grid road system), the logical progression from here was to showcase the talent on the album, so she has successfully secured two venues to promote the music of MK to a wider audience. The Milton Keynes event takes place on Saturday 25th April at the SNO!bar Xscape, and the London gig is being held at the Camden Barfly on Thursday 30th April.

These developments all come part of a bigger project which runs under the Grid City Committee (GCC); a community group set up by Hannah with backing from MaD and Snoosh Productions to support and advise musicians  in the city, something she felt the area lacked. " I saw a gap in the market....there aren't really any outlets or projects to support the music being made in MK, in terms of bringing it to a wider audience, so I decided to do something about it. There is a definite lack of specific music venues here, so musicians are forced to survive off the back of open mic nights and summer festivals. This way, (with the album anyone can download from iTunes and the London event)- hopefully it will put MK and it's music scene on the map- the quality of music on the album is of such a high standard and it hasn’t even scratched the surface of the plethora of talent that resides here"

Initially running as an online forum (www.gridcitycommittee.co.uk - website now up and running, make your comments now!), in the future she aims to secure space to run an advice hub or drop in centre and really pull in the music community and change the bad reputation MK so often gets.
