Flog It! comes to Milton Keynes

Popular BBC2 antiques programme ‘Flog It!’ is coming to Milton Keynes for a valuation day this summer. The event, with presenter Paul Martin, will be held on August 3 at Jury’s Inn hotel in Central Milton Keynes. So why not dig out that old painting, or go up in the loft for that antique vase and bring it along on the day to have it valued by the experts at this exciting event for one of the BBC’s most popular daytime shows.

The valuation day allows members of the public to bring in antiques and collectables that they are interested in selling. Antiques experts will be on hand to value all items and may even be able to let the owners in on past secrets of the item. Once valued, the owner and team of experts decide whether it should go forward for auction which will take place on September 25 at the Charles Ross in Woburn, Bedfordshire and will be broadcast as part of the seventh series later in the year.

Previous programmes have seen unbeknown owners of valuable items pick up a hefty sum when they were sold at auction. A lady from Aberdeen sold a Shelley tea set for a huge £3,400, another picked up a ceramic bowl from a car boot sale for a mere £4 and it fetched £1,500 in the auction and a small cream jug has been sold at auction for £1,300.

Jackie Inskipp, general manager from Destination Milton Keynes said: “We’re very excited that ‘Flog It!’ is coming to Milton Keynes and a great opportunity for people from Milton Keynes and the surrounding area to bring in their antiques as you never know what valuable items you may be storing away at home. Despite the fact that so much of Milton Keynes is new, there is a huge amount of history too!  The area had been settled and intensively farmed well before the Roman conquest and the majority of villages which were incorporated into the Unitary Authority of Milton Keynes, including Milton Keynes Village, are listed in the Domesday Book. We may not see anything that old but I’m sure the people of Milton Keynes have some interesting items to flog!

“Jury’s Inn Hotel is part of thehub:mk, which is full of new cafés, bars and restaurants so people can make a day of it and enjoy dinner and drinks once their item has been valued.  But what would be really great is if they stayed on for another day or two to find out why so many people find this new city such a fascinating mix of cultures, old and new.”
