The menu, which will offer a choice of four starters; four main courses and desserts, has taken over two months to create and specific spices have been imported directly from Delhi’s spice markets. “We have put a lot of thought, creativity and family knowledge into the creation of each dish to make our 1st birthday a truly special occasion”, says the manager at Calcutta Brasserie, Mo. To complement the meal, management have requested the services of a traditional Santoor player.
Since management took over the 18th century building in 2008, Calcutta Brasserie has introduced a unique menu that is unconventional to the normal ‘high street’ Indian restaurants and inspired by generations of traditional home cooking. The restaurant’s stunning interior, set within a grade II listed Chapel, and including the iconic mural of Michelangelo’s ‘Creation of Adam’, has undoubtedly helped see business strive through the current economic climate.
Mo says: “The restaurant industry is extremely tough at the moment but I believe that a combination of our exceptional menu and the complete experience has helped build our reputation for being the best in the area.”
Over the past twelve months, Calcutta Brasserie has welcomed over 30,000 customers; made approximately 54,000 poppadoms; the most popular dish is the Tharavu Roast – pan seared spiced Gessingham duck; the furthest someone has come from is from Sydney, Australia; the most number of visits by one person (eat in and takeaway) is 107; and one person has even requested the services of Calcutta’s chefs for a private party at his house.
The 1st birthday celebration costs £15 per person and includes a drink on arrival; a three course meal and live entertainment.
Table reservations are limited for this night, therefore pre-booking is essential. Call Calcutta Brasserie on 01908 566577. Visit www.calcuttabrasserie.co.uk for more information.
