This year over 140 tons of sand will be shipped in to Middleton Hall to create the indoor beach, for children to play in whilst the adults relax in deckchairs. There will also be a lighthouse helter skelter, swing boats, a crazy golf course, a carousel, 30 foot high coconut trees to climb* and weekly sandcastle competitions.
Free events on the beach include; from the 17 July to 24 August between 6.30-8.00pm each Tuesday evening, thecentre:mk will be hosting beach parties for 8-12 year olds. Whilst on Thursday 29 July and Thursday 12 August, MK Dons Sports Education Trust will be hosting football skills session and friendly match in Middleton Hall from 5.00-7.00pm. Supporting these two initiatives on Thursday 19 and Thursday 26 August Sports Leaders will be hosting net games evenings, featuring beach badminton, volleyball and tennis.
Melanie Beck, Advertising & Communications Manager at thecentre:mk commented on the news, "Given the famous British summer weather and recent research from VisitEngland which revealed that in 2009 the 'staycation' phenomenon meant that there was an 18 per cent increase in the number of UK holiday trips taken**. What we have tried to do is recreate a little bit of the British seaside in Middleton Hall.
The indoor beach was such a popular event last year with Middleton Hall receiving over 20,000 visits per day. This year we have gone for a purely traditional approach and with the schedule of activities we have planned we hope public will love it even more."
