Milton Keynes Arts Open Weekend

Have you ever wondered what’s in the wardrobe at Milton Keynes Theatre? Why we have Public Art across the City Centre? How messy it is in an artist’s studio? Just where is the Secret Garden? Well now’s your chance to find out! The Arts Open Weekend is taking place on the 15th, 16th & 17th May and venues across Milton Keynes are opening the doors for the public have a peek around and try out different types of art.

You can join in and experience dance, drama, live jazz, air-brushing, vintage markets, theatrical make-up, watercolour painting, craft shows, calligraphy workshops, tours of artwork, printing, paper mache – just to mention a few.

Your weekend could look like this:
A spot of live music with the Open University Orchestra on the 15th at the Old Lecture Theatre, OU Campus 1-2pm before heading for an evening at Milton Keynes Gallery 7.15-10pm.  The Gallery is running a night of art, music, poetry, film and performance in Margaret Powell Square (outside of the Gallery) as part of their youth programme.

Begin your Saturday leisurely with a tour of the public art with Blue Badge Guide Justin Neal (departs promptly at 10.30am from the Black Horse Sculpture, outside Lloyds Bank), then pop into the AIM Gallery to view the new retrospective exhibition of Bill Billings work and see artists creating artwork with air-brushes.  From there you can jump on the number 7 bus to Great Linford to visit the Bicycle Basket Bazaar and open workshops at Artworks-mk.

On Sunday there’s a choice of fifteen places to visit.  Why not head to Wolverton to have a look around the Madcap Theatre, take part in a Hula Dance workshop and then head over to the Wolverton Secret Garden (if you can find it) for live jazz.

Or grab a full programme and plan your own weekend of free arts! Pick up your programme from your local library or arts centre or download it from www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/openweekend
