Alan Ball Memorial Cup Announces First Group Of Players

No less than eight former England internationals, three World Champions and a European Footballer of the Year have agreed to take the stadium:mk field on Sunday July 29 for the Alan Ball Memorial Cup.

The England team for this unique football event will include former Manchester United and England captain Bryan Robson, ex-Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson, talismanic Southampton forward Matthew Le Tissier, 1996 PFA Player of the Year Les Ferdinand MBE, 1988 PFA Player of the Year John Barnes, three-time FA Cup winner Dennis Wise, three-time French title winner Chris Waddle and former Manchester United starlet Lee Sharpe.

The England squad will also include Radio One’s JK, TV personality Angus Deayton, Rugby World Cup winners Matt Dawson and Ben Cohen and former Super Middleweight World Champion Nigel Benn.

The World squad will feature Chelsea and Italy’s Gianfranco Zola OBE, West Ham striker Paulo Di Canio, 1996 European Footballer of the Year Matthias Sammer, ex-Spurs and Germany midfielder Steffen Freund, Sweden’s 1994 World Cup hero Tomas Brolin, alongside Liverpool Legends Ian Rush, John Aldridge and Bruce Grobbelaar.

Fans attending the game will also enjoy ‘Battle of the Soaps’ match which pits the football teams of soap rivals including Coronation Street and Emmerdale. The 30-minute each-way match will form a ‘warm-up’ to the main event and completing a unique summer festival of football.

Organisers Toast and Guerrilla will also make a donation to the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service.
