MK Theatre announces Autumn Season

As Milton Keynes Theatre embarks on their second decade expect a celebration season of firsts, firm favourites and fun for all the family this autumn.

November will see MK welcome two touring companies for the very first time and fans of the bard will not be disappointed. English National Ballet, the UK’s largest touring ballet with a company over 100, bring classic ballet in Rudolf Nureyev’s beautiful and heartbreaking retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (02 – 06 NOV).

FlawlessShakespeare’s Globe brings witty drama with the hilarious, highly acclaimed and brilliantly constructed comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor (16 – 20 NOV). More new drama in the form of Alan Bennett’s deeply funny and thought provoking new play The Habit of Art (19 – 23 OCT) direct from the its smash hit run at the National Theatre is guaranteed to be a popular choice.  A brand new dance experience can be enjoyed as one of the UK’s Hottest dance acts, the inspirational Britain’s got Talent stars Flawless (07 NOV) present their dizzying debut show.

Musical enthusiasts can enjoy Hairspray (16 SEP – 09 OCT) and Monty Python’s Spamalot (29 NOV – 04 DEC). West End favourite Hairspray, the show with big hair, a big heart and even bigger hits stars Les Dennis and Brian Conley as you have never seen him before. And you’ll be roaring with laughter as Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table gallop into town in Eric Idle and John DuPrez’s Spamalot. Starring Amy Nuttall and Todd Carty, it’s the most infectiously funny musical of the millennium.

HairsprayAll time favourites include the return of two of the most successful musicals of all time Annie (31 AUG – 04 SEP) and Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers (22 – 27 NOV). A whole new generation are sure to be charmed by the tale of little orphan Annie, starring Su Pollard and David McAlister whilst emotionally charged Blood Brothers, having just celebrated 21 years in London is guaranteed to shock and move you.  Don your pork pie hats, dig out your shades and get ready to shake your tail feather as the theatre welcomes the legendary (All New) Original Tribute to the Blues Brothers (06 – 11 SEP) featuring cast from hit West End run, prepare to party! 

A twist on one of the world’s most-loved films is brought to you in The Wiz (14 – 18 SEP) from Songtime Theatre Arts. Featuring Steph Fearon from the BBC’s Over the Rainbow this is an amazing opportunity to see a fantastic amateur production of the Motown remake of The Wizard of Oz. International smash-hit Stomp (26 – 30 OCT) also return to MK with brand new routines they are fresher faster and funnier – a night not to be missed

 If that’s not enough for the kids then make sure you don’t miss one of Roald Dahl’s best-loved and most popular stories brought to you by the Birmingham Stage Company – the wiz-popping, fizz-crackling Georges Marvellous Medicine (12 – 16 OCT). Completing the list of favourites Glyndebourne on Tour (09 – 13 NOV) returns for their highly-anticipated annual visit with three spectacular productions, Mozart’s masterpiece Don Giovanni. Rossini’s comedy La Cenerentola, a re-telling of Perrault’s classic fairy tale, Cinderella and Monteverdi’s last work, The Coronation of Poppea, where passionate, forbidden love is victorious over goodness and virtue.

The season concludes with a brand new Panto as Dick Whittington (10 DEC – 16 JAN) starring Luke Perry and Joanna Page, begins a fun-filled quest for fame and fortune. Will the streets of MK be paved with gold? You’ll have to get to the theatre this Christmas to find out! Featuring all the traditional pantomime ingredients Dick Whittington is a classic tale of rags to riches, guaranteed to be full of wonder and delight.

There are one-night shows galore with comedy from Ross Noble (19 SEP), Sean Lock (11 OCT) and Armstrong and Miller (17 OCT) and an intimate night of psychic mediumship with Colin Fry (24 OCT).

A look ahead at the Spring 2011 Season brings Matthew Bourne’s spectacular story Cinderella, must-see musical Chess, hilarious Les Ballet Trockadero and two operatic masterpieces from Welsh National Opera.
