The expanding reputation and influence of Milton Keynes Gallery’s artistic programme continues to flourish this spring with the London cinema première of the film Crackers by British artist David Austen.
First seen in Austen’s striking solo exhibition at Milton Keynes Gallery earlier this year, it was co-commissioned by Milton Keynes Gallery and the Centre for Contemporary Visual arts, University of Brighton, supported by Arts Council England.
On Wednesday 16 May at 6.15pm there is another opportunity for the public to meet the artist and see the 38 minute film, when Austen introduces Crackers to a mixed public and professional audience at the Prince Charles Cinema, London.
Written and directed by Austen, Crackers is significant for representing a powerful expansion of his work into the medium of film, and resonates with many ideas that often resurface - love, sex, death and the ache of human impulse.
Speaking of the London film screening, Milton Keynes Gallery’s Director Michael Stanley commented, “Milton Keynes Gallery is developing a significant reputation amongst artists, audiences and professionals both in the UK and beyond for commissioning exciting new work from both emerging and established artists. We are delighted to support David Austen in the London première of ‘Crackers’ to provide another opportunity for a wider audience to engage with this stunning new work.”
